Voltaire’s Ghost Gives Us an Edgy and Deepening Release

A new EP release from Voltaire's Ghost gives off a beautiful blend of indie and alternative rock with a sort of theatrical singer-songwriter underbelly and all of this comes together beautifully to create an atmosphere that you end up getting wrapped up in and honestly, don't really want to leave.

The Nemesis EP is packed with these layers of textures from piano to heavy-toned guitars, slamming drums and so much more but the thing about it is, that it creates a vastness in the undertone of the songs a lot of the time which both even more of that theatrical or even cinematic feel.

Now, having said all that, this is a heavy rock EP indeed and has loads of edginess along with all that drive and just a wonderful sonic presence, but it also has character and these stories that are told with each different song which, at times I almost feel like connect, making it almost like a concept record.

This is not something I am 100% sure about of course but to me, it feels like that, and this is just one of the reasons why listening to this full ep is a must.

Each song brings something a little bit different to the table so you hear different sides of the stories, different sides of the band's songwriting, and all these elements that you would miss if you only listened to a single for example.

You definitely don't want to miss a lot with this record because there are layers to be peeled back here.

You get involved right from the first track which is also the title track of the record and that story kind of begins this journey in a way.

You also get an understanding of how descriptive the lyrics can be at times which pulls you in even further.

I love this aspect because a lot of these songs are almost like chapters of a book to me. So, you get the premise, you get a lot of detail, but it also leaves some to your imagination which I loved.

The guitar tone is perfect. And the band themselves have such great electric energy to the point where it feels like they were recorded live on the floor.

All the players seem to be feeding off of each other the entire time and I enjoy that alive and breathing sort of energy that the EP has from beginning to end.

The vocalist adds that beautiful touch because she can bring a powerful approach, but she can also bring a smooth and floaty, angelic approach as well at times.

She adds so much to these songs and it's her vocals and her lyrics that layer the record so that you get sucked into not just the soundscape but the words and the stories.

I love a good record that has some depth to it like this one does and the band does an outstanding job of really pushing the envelope to a perfect point so that nothing is overdone, but it just has that perfect level of sonic drive the whole time.

It almost feels like these songs are sort of orchestrated in a way.

There is a lot of movement going on in the arrangements and everything still has a beautiful and forward moving flow, so I love that combination of heavy edginess and gracefulness that the whole record gives off.

This was completely addictive, full of character vibrant, dark, genuine, and served as a little bit of an escape for me.

This record pulled me away from whatever I was doing and put me in a different place together and got me into each track to the point that by the time the record was over, I sort of had to reacclimate myself back to reality again.

Take a deep dive into this record and see how it affects you.

Remember where you heard it first.
