If you are not yet too familiar with the sounds of Matilda Mother Band, then let us be among the first to introduce you as they have recently released an album solely on band camp so far that crosses an experimental and almost psychedelic rock approach with this almost live performance atmosphere and this makes the record very personal which is something that gives it character.
The Bulletin News record features Atomic Ninel and was recorded in a very particular way and this gives it a very particular energy as well, but this is also part of the addicting aesthetic of the record as a whole.
You can hear folk and even jazz influences coming through along with hints of '90s rock undertones and even classic rock influences in there as well.
I found this record to be a very attractive and personable release that feels like it was done as a passion project and that's why it has this sort of Lo-Fi vibe to it, but that vibe and that sound is part of why it comes through with such an authentic tonality.
This was a wonderful record and as I mentioned earlier you can only listen to this one on Bandcamp for now however, there is an outstanding track released in 2021 called "Think Back" which definitely hits that classic rock feel gives a very personal approach with this energy that certainly feels like it was recorded live in the moment.
This one has a 60s and 70s rock style and appeal with a little bit of a different production approach but still keeps to a slightly low-fi ideal so that the aesthetic comes through in the same light and the band's presence is able to really shine properly.
This is an addictive track as well and I feel like everything this band releases have a very high level of character and personality attached to it right from the start.
The "Think Back" single is part of an EP dubbed Fluttering Reflection and each track on this record shows a little bit of a different side to the songwriting approach and mix of color, energy, edginess, and texture.
I would definitely suggest listening to the EP all the way through and there are only three tracks, so it spans about 9 minutes or so in length.
After I checked this out, I decided to take a little deep dive through the band's back catalog which I'm happy about because they do have a handful of other singles and maxi-singles that have been released since 2019, and everything really creates a beautiful sort of atmosphere that you can fall into.
Definitely have a good listen to the Fluttering Reflection EP from 2021 and then jump over to band camp to listen to the Bulletin News record which is a live home recording with Matilda Mother Band and Atomic Ninel.
Remember where you heard it all first.
