The Ocelots return with a new single and another glimpse into their upcoming album release and this track really shows a different side to how they write and also their approach to blending genres and creating something that has an impact when you listen to it.
"Australia" is quite a beautiful song that feels like it came from someplace very genuine because it has the sentiment of wanting to leave the place, you're in for something new whether it's just for a change or because you're after something.
The emotional aspects of leaving the place you're in and going someplace new can be intense because you are leaving everything and everyone you know, especially if you've been there for a long time and have a life there.
The beckoning in your soul or heart to up and leave. To go someplace fresh and new is a normal thing that people deal with all the time but a lot of us don't really know how to articulate the emotional bounty that comes along with that. Listening to this track lets you understand that those kinds of thoughts are normal and people who do want to go someplace new have to sacrifice things in order to do so.
Now, I didn't write the song so I could be a little bit off in terms of the sentiment, but this is what I picked up from it.
It feels like something that has this amazing layer of meaning to it and this gives it a thick personality which is not a surprise coming from The Ocelots.
There's always an authenticity with the lyrics when it comes to these guys and it's something you find yourself getting attached to quite often because you can relate to it so easily.
"Australia" is certainly a track that is no exception to this rule, and it makes me really look forward to the full album that's coming soon.
If someone made me say so, I would say this was Indie pop with folk influence, but it also has elements of contemporary or light rock as well and the tonality of it has a flowing aspect but also comes through with a particular lushness that makes everything feel full-bodied.
This is the song that makes you think or, makes you feel. It was actually for me. This song made me think and feel. We need more music like this. I think that as a whole, people need to hear music that they can understand, relate to, or get moved from.
This was a gorgeous track that had such graceful performances with heart and again, that authenticity is honestly part of their staple aesthetic.
Now, in case you haven't figured it out, we're no strangers to The Ocelots and have been privileged enough to listen to some of their previous releases including "The Good of a Bad Year" which was also quite a beautiful song.
I feel like there's going to be a little bit more rock throughout the course of the full album but their approach to writing songs with heavy-handed emotion or sentiment seems to be their strong point because it all hits the way it's meant to.
So, check this track out, and then you can also listen to a few of their other tracks that are part of the upcoming album dubbed Everything, when said slowly, set to release in just a few days on the 7th of February.
Check this out and see how it affects you.
