The Eves Drop a New EP

An EP release from The Eves comes through the robust sense of personality mostly due to the honesty in the lyrics but also because of the way the entire thing is delivered as well. These songs feel like they are chapters in someone's life, and you can tell that a lot of this stuff came from someplace real, so it comes across extremely authentic, warm, and personal.

The Both Sides EP takes an amazing blend of op that lends a hand to contemporary, Americana, singer songwriter, and more with tracks that even have beautiful and less orchestral sections in them that create such a massive emotional backbone that you can't turn away.

This is one of my favorite aspects about the record as hope. It's got an eclectic approach that combines genres and the whole thing is coded in this beautiful pop element but it's also quite subtle at that.

The vocal performances on this release are outstanding and they sound so robust and beautifully harmonized a lot of the time which gives things a beautifully vast undertone and lets you pay a lot of attention to the lyrics as well.

Again, these songs tell stories, so you are drawn into those lyrics but it's also this sort of bountiful and ever-growing approach musically that wraps itself around you and keeps it right where it wants to.

This is the type of record that you end up getting engulfed in and then by the end, you end up getting washed away with it as well.

It's the final track of the EP that brings out all this beautiful string work and orchestral tonality, so this is a great closure to the record, but it also gives that cinematic feel and pushes that emotion even further.

The production on this EP is outstanding also. Everything is crisp, well thought out, designed and polished super well but even if it wasn't, these songs would come across with a strength.

The power in these songs is in the songwriting itself along with those performances.

The way they bring together those Americana and acoustic elements with the pop overtone is outstanding and it's something that helps create an atmosphere for the record that you end up falling right into.

When you listen to this EP it makes you want to go see them perform it live simply because of this kind of energy and color is captured on record this well then seeing them perform it live would be amazing.

These songs come through sonically sort of driving in their own way but not over the top. Everything is dynamically balanced very well and it's the kind of record that sticks with you because it's got all these little hooks and anthemic style choruses that end up bouncing around in your head for hours or even days after the songs have ended.

The only way to satiate that is to go and listen to the record again and even though you may think that's just smart songwriting, I think The Eves have a natural ability to do this and it's just how they write songs.

After listening to this record, I took a bit of a deep dive into the Scottish duo's back catalog and I'm certainly glad that I did because they have an excellent catalog of singles and small eps starting in 2018 and if you listen to the stuff released from then up until now, you'll get a great grasp of their evolution as people and artists.

This is certainly a group that puts little pieces of themselves into their music and things come through with a very robust, full-bodied, and personal approach that really leaves its mark.

Again, I also love the bending and blending of genres because it seems so natural the way they do it that it feels completely seamless.

It is pop music, and they do a great job of bringing together hints of color, edginess, character, vibrancy, and memorable melody to their songwriting.

Don't just take my word for it though, have a listen to this EP and do it with headphones on because it's one of the best ways to soak everything in.

Also, be sure and listen to the whole EP from beginning to end. Listening to One song off this record will not give you the full spectrum of what the EP has to offer as a whole.

Check this out right now and remember where you heard it first.
