An addictive and wild new album from Kaphonie delivers an incredibly lush array of electronic and digital-based soundscapes in the form of bright and vivacious pop-coated singles and throughout it, all you start to get an incredible feeling for this character that it gives off and this is something you end up getting attached to almost right away.
The Control-your Hat album is brimming with color and personality and you become engulfed in this record so quickly because it's such a great escape from your normal day-to-day reality.
The album can pull you away from your surroundings and put you in different places and this to me, is like a gift in music that you don't come across often, so when you do it's so refreshing.
One of the things I adore most about this record is its outstanding and almost fantastical approach. You get such an amazing blend of genres that are rolled into one fat record and it's satiating by the time you get to the end of it.
This release is produced with a very unique and personal touch. You get everything from vintage, synth-pop, chiptune, and more along with elements of R&B approach.
The synth and key are enough to draw you in and give you the idea that this is part whimsical and part serious because there are bouts of honesty that happen throughout this record but you have to pay attention.
It's not hard to pay attention to the lyrics, but there's so much fun going on musically that it kind of takes over from time to time.
Layers of digital soundscapes and textures flowing and mending in and out of each other constantly.
It's bright and when you listen to it you get the idea that, not only was there a lot of attention to detail put into the creation of this record, but throughout that process the artist never lost his character or personality the entire time.
This, in a certain way, is one of the most important parts about this album.
I love a record where you can expect the unexpected and that's exactly how you feel by the time you get maybe four songs in.
You start to understand that there's going to be more surprises around the corners and they're going to be good ones.
The vocal approach has a fun and almost animated feel at times but again, you do get that honesty and that genuine undertone a lot so you know that some of these songs came from real places and inner thought.
This is one of those albums that you have to listen to all the way through.
If you listen to one or two tracks it's possible you may get a slight glimpse of what you can expect for the rest of the record but it doesn't give you anywhere near the full spectrum of what the actual album has to offer as a whole.
There are layers here. And they're incredibly fun to peel back.
You can hear all the culture infused with these songs along with the things that Inspire the artist to create it.
There's a little bit of bubbliness to it all and if you listen to it with headphones on you can soak everything in.
There are keys, sounds, and notes that swim along through the ether of some of these songs and if you don't pay attention, you might miss them, listening to it with headphones on lets you really grab a hold of everything.
This was more of an experience than just an album and the whole thing created an atmosphere that you simply don't want to leave.
This was charismatic, vivacious, a little edgy, super colorful, and bent genres when it wanted to.
100% ear candy from beginning to end.
Check this album out when you can and again, listening to it with headphones is the best and listening to the whole record is even better.
You will not forget about this record when it's over.
Remember where you heard it first.
