Siri Neel has returned and this time with a full-length album release that really has a way of pulling on the heartstrings and bearing a lot of soul with these dreamlike approaches and textures that hug the premise of each song on the record and all of them connect together like a concept album would but in a different way.
The album itself feels almost like a diary and throw out its unfolding, you get a glimpse of who the artist is.
This is the kind of record that feels like it took and finally got out into the world and maybe that is true. Either way, you're getting important segments of her life and that is just one aspect of the release that helps pull you into everything.
The record is called "Drawn Like A Magnet" and at times it feels ethereal because the songs have a drifting sway to them and as you listen through it also seems like you're sifting through memories of hers.
The performances and displays of personal attribute are gorgeous because she gives off passion and heart so you know that all of these songs and the album in full, is something that means a lot to her and in turn as I mentioned, makes it feel that it took a long time to be able to piece this together because it's so important and so massive in terms of its depth.
A lot of the lyrics of the songs are very straightforward and her expression of feelings is graceful and articulate.
The record has soul and you can hear that with songs like "Oxygen" which is one of my favorites from the release. However, all of these songs really do give off that illustrious expression and this all comes back to how the album, especially to Siri herself, has so much value and meaning.
Their aspects of the record that feel orchestrated and a lot of it is very moving because not only is it important to Siri herself of course, but when you listen to it yourself, it's completely understandable and this is due in part to how she puts together her lyrics in such a way that she's not holding anything back.
When someone listens to a record like this they want to relate to it and they want to understand it and they want to feel something from it.
I think that not only does Siri do this for herself but also does it so that people can feel something from her songs and her music.
The production of the entire thing is outstanding and isn't over the top in terms of its polish or full-bodied sounds but rather walks that line between anesthetic that is beautifully put together with big and wondrous approaches and sounds, instruments and vocals, but there's also that element of underground as well.
It doesn't sound like they came out of Geffen Records. But rather it's a personal record so the songs have great quality and amazing production but it's not too far done. There's still a little hint of a feeling that you get when you listen to it that lets you imagine her recording the record on her own in a basement somewhere.
This gives that personal feeling a little bit more authenticity.
Having said that, the record came out so moving and with variations of intensities, so you really do feel a lot from it and when it's over, you realize that the whole thing did a great job of engulfing you in it and letting you get washed away as well.
This was a powerful release and is something that you should really listen to as a full album however, if you only having time for a few tracks, I would strongly suggest "Oxygen", "I Cry" or "I'm A Maze" as each of these will give you an understanding of where Siri is coming from with this record.
Take a swim through this album when you can and be sure and remember just where you heard this first.
