One Son Comes Back With A Deep Release

One Son returns with a massive and deepening record that doesn't outstanding job showcasing the layers of not only his artistry but his personality and self-worth as he goes through the songs that help define who he is as a person, you begin to understand the more and more and while the album is unfolding you start to paint that picture in your head of the artist, his inspirations, and his ability to stand up to whatever maybe in his way.

The S.O.S. (Son of Sonny) album is somewhat of a dedication to the artist's father and that ode comes through loud and clear as you listen through.

A lot of the lyrics to this record are personal but this is not new for One Son as they're always aspects of personality and inner thought coming out with his releases.

This one seems to dig a little bit deeper and get a little bit more detailed as well which is something that I found myself getting quite attached to.

Each song feels connected with the other, so the record feels like a concept album of sorts, and I love that attribute as well because it helps pull you into the music. The understanding that the songs interconnect with each other and each one has a meaning while the album itself has a bigger meaning is something that is addicting, and being able to see that bigger picture was impressive.

Each track displays a different chapter for the artist. Each song shows a different way that he was influenced, inspired, or had to battle against something but the whole thing is very existential to a degree.

It's almost like this is the record that made him realize that he can hold himself in the highest of regards because he deserves it.

But again, this record is a note to his father and most other men out there who fight through whatever they have to and do whatever they have to to take care of their families. Fathers and men who have responsibilities and uphold them for the greater good. For the love.

"The project is a full circle moment due to being invited to the Famous Apollo Theatre in 1997 and performing a song called A True Role Model (where he got a standing ovation) which was dedicated to my father to now dedicating a project S.O.S. (Son of Sonny) to him. Although the project is titled as a dedication it's a Hip-Hop project that is different from my last two previous releases (I Got This, and Mic TY.SON) no song sounds alike, and each song can be taken as a concept of creating a project," explains One Son of the record.

We are quite familiar with those previous releases and can certainly tell you that this does stand alone on its own two feet as something separate from those projects.

This is something that holds a lot of meaning and depth on a personal level for the artist even more so than some of the other releases did.

The approach brings in classic and vintage samples and beats that help solidify the aesthetic that this was aimed for.

This is certainly an album you listen to more than one time. There's a lot to soak in and if you listen to it a few times you will most certainly pick up on things you missed out on the first time around.

A lot of this is due to clever and quick lyrical phrasing that is a normal part of One Son's staple approach and sound as an artist.

I would most certainly listen to this record in full and kick back and try to do it without interruption so you can get a grasp for all of the layers of meaning that is given off.

Dive into this record as soon as you can and remember where you heard it first.
