A brand new single just dropped from Matt DeAngelis, and this song in particular boasts such a classic rock aesthetic that it completely thrives, and as that all happens, the message and sentiment behind the song really shine through.
"For Better" is a very lush song with all kinds of layered guitars and vocals to it. There are times throughout the track, especially during some of those choruses, where you hear almost gospel-like choir vocals filling the atmosphere and delivering this sort of passion and emotion behind everything.
The vocal approach throughout this entire thing is so brilliant because Matt himself has this real, genuine, classic rock feel to his vocals on this song. It makes you think of bands you grew up listening to in the '70s and '80s.
There are rock electric guitars, but there are also acoustic guitars that come in layers as well. I think part of why Matt's songs feel so thick and full-bodied is because of all these layers of instrumentation that he incorporates during the recording process.
It would certainly seem that the artist has a particular way of tracking his stuff, and part of that is the building aspect. Making sure that a song starts in one place but also has the ability to grow into something even bigger. This is a common stable format of music and part of why the songs have impact.
This track also has a massive build vocally, as I mentioned earlier. The vocals are flowing but powerful at the same time. There's a sort of anthemic backbone to the way they're performed, which is also a staple of how Matt performs on a lot of his songs.
This one just feels more robust.
As I brought up earlier, with his music, Matt is able to display a message a lot of the time. It may be a personal message or one that is more universal and meant for everyone, but either way, the message is normally received really well.
This single is no exception to that rule. This track is about trying to make a change for the better, of course. But it has a particular backbone in people being disconnected from our own lives and our realities right now.
Relying more on robotics and technology to do our work or create our art is putting us further away from our humanity, in a sense.
It doesn't even have to be that existential. Just think of you and a loved one sitting on a couch together, but instead of having a conversation and looking at each other, you're looking at your phones and have no idea what the other person is doing.
This is an important topic to touch on because more and more of that is happening these days.
Now, this is just how I took the song, but Matt really put that message through pretty strongly. There is the essence of a rebuild in the sentiment of the song as well. We realize our flaws, and we can make a change for the better. This is part of the point of the track, as I took it.
So, as I said, Matt has a very beautiful and particular way of displaying and giving off these messages and sentiments, and with this song, it really came through with strength.
Musically, I absolutely adore that classic rock influence because the aesthetic is nailed so well.
The music of Matt DeAngelis is influenced by a series of things, of course. Many attributes play a part in Matt's musical being and how he writes his music, but for this track, I really feel that the classic rock vibe is on the Forefront.
You can hear that folk and straight rock essence in there too, but I love how he nailed this great aesthetic because it gave me little bouts of nostalgia.
I grew up listening to authentic classic rock, and Matt really nailed that soundscape so well that it took me back.
This was a song that had some power behind it, and Matt did an amazing job of really showcasing his presence as an artist on this one.
If you're not really familiar with Matt's music, then this is a great start. Check this track out to start off with, and then go back through some of his older stuff because he releases a lot of music, and it all has a bit of a different side to Showcase.
The arrangements, topics, and songwriting approaches are a little different, and I think his true colors are showing in terms of being able to input those strong and sometimes emotional sentiments into his music and having it be displayed the way he wants it.
This was an excellent track, and if you're a fan of any kind of real classic rock, then you're going to love this song.
Check this one out right now and remember where you heard this first.
