Maddi Jones Drops an Honest and Haunting Rock Single

A new single release from Maddi Jones delivers such a unique brand of honesty that comes through both straightforward, and metaphorically as well as the whole thing is about a relationship and while I'm not giving everything about it away, it does come through super relatable but it's in the way that she articulates the lyrics that really makes it fun and unique.

"Exorcist" does such an outstanding job of blending that level of fiction and reality and while she does this and the song unfolds, it all makes perfect sense to the point where I feel like a lot of us have been through similar situations.

Her ability to create a character and a detailed perspective that the song comes from really makes this addictive and she gets so detailed with so much of the description, but it all comes from emotion and feeling. There's a lot of emotional drive on the record and it comes through in the way that she wants it to, so it works out incredibly well for whoever is listening to it because it's a little bit outside the box lyrically but again, it still makes perfect sense and is completely relatable.

This is a sort of heavy rock single and it makes me think of bands like Veruca Salt for example especially because it's got these breathing sections where some of the verses are more calm and then they kind of explode out into bigger and more driving choruses all with heavy rock guitar tones and these great vocals that feel sort of calm in a way but also edging on being intense.

I'm a big fan of stuff like this because I grew up with a lot of female fronted bands and I love the soundscape of this robust and edgy, heavy and alternative rock sound that borders on grunge and so much more, along with harmonizing vocals that just feel honest and authentic but are never super over the top.

That's the way this track is.

It is such a beautiful balance of that sort of gracefulness in the vocal approach, beautiful harmonies, but it also balances the heavy rock soundscape along with the fiction nonfiction crossover lyric wise so it's so unique in that sense and it works perfectly because it all comes through with a charm.

She's literally charming in it.

This was such a rad song especially in terms of the whole sort of classic grunge and heavy rock aesthetic that you can really tell some of those bands from the late 90s or early 2000s really influenced her sound in different ways.

You also have this sort of whistling sound that adds a haunt. It sounds almost like it could be a theremin, but I can't be sure. It really adds This creepy sort of atmosphere to the track which makes perfect sense given the premise and the title of course.

I love the way she sings simply because it feels genuine. She's just being herself and she's expressing what she's been through and how she feels about it in the best way she knows how, which is through her music but she's doing it with her own natural personality and that's really what you come to love by the end of the song.

I certainly feel like you may get bouts of nostalgia listening to this especially if you're someone around my age who grew up listening to great alternative and grunge bands of the 90s because you can tell those are influences.

An outstanding single that really makes you want to find out more about Maddi Jones, which is something you certainly should, dive into the unique and slightly avant-garde "Exorcist" when you can and I actually would suggest you either listen to it pretty loud, or even with headphones on.

The song sounds really good with headphones.

Again, there's stuff happening in the ether of the track that you may not pick up on naturally the first time around but when you listen to it with headphones it lets you soak in all the different elements.

There are definitely layers of textures going on with the track between the guitar tone, the vocal tone, and that theremin whistling sound as well.

The track also features a really sort of bopping rhythm that you also end up getting quite attached to.

Check this out right now and remember where you heard it first.
