Josh Gillespie Releases a Brilliant Cover Song

A new single release from Josh Gillespie delivers a reimagining of a classic song for a lot of us and this version of what was already an intense sort of song comes through with a whole new vibe and a whole new aesthetic.

"Fall Down" was originally a track released by Toad the Wet Sprocket in the '90s.  If you grow up during that time, then you remember the band and the song pretty well.

Josh's version of this track took something that was a grungy alternative and indie rock approach and turned it into this super emotionally driven and atmospheric song that has so much pull that you end up getting engulfed and eventually washed away by its soundscape.

This was amazing to me because it showcased his ability to create a completely different sound while still staying true to the original in different ways.

This track was not just a stripped-down acoustic track. It had strings that added This brilliant set of textures that floated through the ether of the track and gave it more depth.

There are so many deepening elements that come through during the unfolding of this song and it feels heavily cinematic to me.

There are rumbling bass tones and percussion that come in and out of the song giving it these waves of intensity, and the whole thing captures a little bit of a different personality but lets you actually focus on the lyrics a lot more than the original in my opinion.

Now, Toad the Wet Sprocket themselves did an acoustic version of this track also, and I like Josh's version better.

I know that's something I probably shouldn't say but I was a fan of the original version from Toad the Wet Sprocket that had the full band, electric guitars, and the whole rock vibe.

This version from Josh has a more personal pull to it and how he does it is expressive and very upfront.

The way he arranges this version of the track is also brilliant. It has a similar arrangement of course because it's a cover song, but he also adds and builds on that by bringing in and out that drum and percussion element along with these bouts of heavy and intense sections that also come in and out of the song with the drums and add this strange edginess to it as well.

This was crazy because it made the song feel like it was alive and breathing.

His ability to turn this into something with such waves of emotion and intensities was overwhelming in a strange sense.

You really got a heavy-handed grip on what the song was about and I feel like it's one of the best cover songs I've heard in a long time because it has such an original and different approach.

This is a track released that is indeed a cover song but also has its own life and entity.

Again, this stays true to the original track in a certain sense but, also takes it on its own and creates something that has fewer boundaries than you may be used to.

This is one of my favorite aspects of the track as a whole.

To me, it has fewer walls built around it in terms of musical approach and sensibility.

This is a song that is meant to be listened to with headphones on so you can soak in all the things happening in the track.

Again, the atmosphere is thick and there are a lot of textures happening so when you listen to it with headphones you can really get a feel for everything and the song seems to swim around in the air that surrounds you this way.

This was a brilliant cover that really showcased how Josh Gillespie can take a track that obviously means a lot to him and recreate it on his own terms.

This was a beautiful single and I would suggest you listen to it right now.

Remember where you heard it first.
