A new EP release from J-Bizz delivers a soiree of rap culture in a four-track span by incorporating a mix of old-school and new-school approaches, unique brands and breeds of honesty, and catchy lyrical phrasing that really has a fresh approach in terms of being able to bounce off of the beat.
The Bad Bizzness EP wastes no time coming through with intense production and vast undertones as the first track "Float" hits with so much inner thought coming out at once that you really have to sit back and soak it all in.
I think this is part of why I loved this record so much. It does give off so much personality and character and you can also tell that it comes from a real place, so it all feels super authentic.
This is a staple of the rest of the record as well as there are those elements of truth coming through left and right. Along with that you have a new approach at the rap flow and the level of personality that comes through so when you listen to the whole EP, you get these waves of intensity that come in and out.
The styles of rapping throughout the record are really intense as well and some of them are quick and fierce while others are spread wider but still very intense in terms of what's being said and the way that it's delivered.
My favorite track on this record is a song called "Peace & Protection" because it's something that really connects with me on a personal level.
The whole sentiment of the track, the way it was performed, the approach, the arrangement, and how this one does lean into a slightly old-school approach all spoke to me a certain way.
This track featured Scrilla H who also did an outstanding job.
This is an EP that spans four tracks and about 12 minutes long but within that short time span, you get layers of musical textures, lyrics that stick with you for days, and these great approaches that really let you get a glimpse into some of the influences that helped drive J-Bizz to do what he does musically.
Some of the lyrics can be very descriptive so you can picture things perfectly while others just speak those inner thoughts driven by certain kinds of emotion and I feel like it all comes together really well.
To an extent, the record even feels almost like a concept release where the songs have different ways of interconnecting with each other.
This was a powerful hip hop release that speaks volumes for J-Bizz as an artist and upon listening to it I went back through some of his previous catalog on Spotify.
This is where I started to get really blown away as the artist has a slew of releases starting back in 2016 and a lot of these records show different sides of his personality and how he does his thing as an artist.
Upon listening to a lot more of his stuff I could really get a sense that he puts a bit of himself into each track that he releases in different ways.
You can also hear quite an evolution in his artistry from his first release through this one.
J-Bizz has certainly been busy, and you can tell that he has a real love for his craft. He collaborates with people, he puts a lot into words, there's a lot of attention to detail that goes into the creation of his tracks, but throughout all of that, it never loses that personality or that character that it starts with in the first place, and this may be the most important aspect of the entire thing.
This was an outstanding EP, but I would also suggest, after listening to this one, that you go and check out some of his previous releases because there's a lot to love here.
It's charismatic, vivacious, vibrant, personal, genuine, inventive, and a lot of it has heart.
This is not just your average rap project.
Check out the Bad Bizzness EP as soon as you can and remember where you heard it first.
