The latest single release from Flight Attendant delivers a massive alternative pop soundscape that has a lot of punchiness to it, but also boasts a vast undertone that lets you sort of get engulfed in the entire thing.
"Anime" is a borderline brilliant combination of edginess in color as they come together seamlessly and also blend approaches that feel slightly old school and vintage with new school and current.
I love those kinds of aspects because you can hear some of the influences that helped create the track in the first place.
There's something strangely cinematic about this song and it may have to do with the synths and keys that are used along with that super fun poppy beat, but a good amount of that vastness comes from the guitar parts that come in and out of the track.
This of course, also brings in the element of rock which this track does have but it's in the form of a sort of garage rock fuzz tone approach and it works perfectly with the sort of attitude that this track has in general.
There's a little bit of wildness to the song and I really enjoy that because it helps me let the whole thing feel alive and breathing in its own way.
It has an attitude.
There are also these synth pads that float through the ether of the song at times and help deliver more of that expansive and almost automatic underbelly, but the vocals close the deal here because they're a little bit experimental and very melodically beautiful.
The singing not only adds beautiful and memorable melody lines to the track, but it does help push that experimental animal psychedelic approach as well and I think that also goes for the whole production of the track in general.
This is a song that's catchy and alternative pop without question. However, it's also outside the box in a lot of ways and is created with fewer walls built around it than the norm which I think is an excellent thing.
So, having said all of that, what really hits hardest about this song are the lyrics.
The lyrics are quite honest and if you really pay attention you can pick up on the situation that the song is about and the premise. This is something to me that was very relatable and I'm sure it is to a lot of people as well.
I think it took quite a bit of bravery to release a song like this for the vocalist or lyricist because they let a lot off their chest and described what was happening in their own way which I found unique.
For the listener it is something that a lot of us have possibly dealt with or felt but don't really know how to articulate that kind of stuff into words let alone words and music so to hear it is why it can help certain people feel like they're not alone and this kind of struggle.
For the songwriter, it was probably cathartic to write and release.
Either way, the track has quite a beauty to it, and this level of intensity that comes in waves.
This was a track that you can peel back layers of, and it feels good to do that, but it also feels good to this jam to it because it's a great, catchy, charismatic, pop song that is a little avant-garde and a lot of fun.
Check this track out as soon as you can, and I would suggest even doing it with headphones on this way you could soak in everything that's happening.
Remember where you heard it first.
