A new single release from Dj Snook delivers a robust and vast soundscape that's very easily engulfing, and with that comes the influence of classic house, techno, and more electronic subgenres that come in and out of the mix giving this single and atmosphere that feels like it's all its own.
"Nowhere To Run (Radio Edit)" utilizes such an outstanding combination of edginess, bounce, color, and that expansive underbelly that gives it depth and layers.
This is certainly the kind of track that you listen to with headphones on so you can soak in all of those layers because there are synth pads and soundscapes that flow through the ether of the track giving it that drifting and almost dream pop aspect as well.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this track is its build. It has such a great way of building from something that comes in with a bit of smoothness and ambience all the way into something with more edge and a hard-hitting feel.
The beat is absolutely classic, and you can certainly hear the vintage house and trance influences that come into this track, which is something that, at times, gave me bouts of nostalgia.
But it's really in the way that it's mixed that makes it work so well. The combination of old and new-school approaches works wonders here and the whole thing came through with such a thick cinematic backbone.
The synth tones and sounds used on this track are a huge part of what makes it come through with this almost classic aesthetic.
Even with that aspect, you have new and old-feeling synth tones strewn throughout the song.
While all this is happening you have female vocals that float through the track as well and are almost used like an instrument themselves even though there are lyrics.
This adds a totally different texture to the track and really makes it feel a bit more full-bodied but also mysterious at the same time.
I love the vocal approach because of the melodies that are used and the sort of subtle softness and delicate approach that they have mixed in with the track that can feel a bit cutting and hard at certain points.
One of the things that really makes this track work is the mix. I don't always touch on the mix of a song but here it's important because it is a huge part of the aesthetic the track delivers.
This has that outer atmosphere with ambience and vastness which is, in part, what makes it feel a bit cinematic as I mentioned earlier. It also has that heavier-sounding beat with other keys and since that sits on top of that vastness. You have a more danceable approach right on the forefront of the track.
This was fun, colorful, and a bit vivacious but also had that smooth aspect so, you can tell this was a well-thought-out song in terms of its arrangement and mix.
Again, this is a track you should listen to with headphones on. You can kick back, close your eyes, and soak this all in because it's an awesome track to do that with.
Of course, it's also super danceable so you can dance around the room with it as well.
This was indeed a bit nostalgic for me and I loved feeling that when I listened to the song.
A beautifully produced track with a lot of attention to detail but never without losing its personality, you should listen to the single as soon as you can. Upon listening to the track I checked out a lot of previous releases from the artist and was astounded to find a multitude of songs that really took shape.
Listening to the back catalog of Dj Snook is endlessly fun and also shows some of the evolution of the artist as a songwriter, producer, and DJ.
But don't just take my word for it, take a deep dive into this single and the rest of the catalog as soon as possible because it's one of the best things you can do today.
Remember where you heard it first.
