Austin Salter Delivers a Massive Album

An album release from Austin Salter delivers such a beautiful and robust breed of honesty that you can't help but really get pulled into these inner thoughts that come spilling out for a lot of the records unfolding.

The Hand Of Mercury album gives off such a thick personality that you end up getting attached to that more than everything else on the record at times.

At times it feels like some of these songs must have been cathartic for us to write and release because for whoever's listening to them, it can be relatable, and understandable simply because of how he can be descriptive lyrically.

This is a perfect example of a record released with fewer boundaries than what you may be used to and, I don't just mean that lyrically, I mean that musically as well.

The album breaks down boundaries in terms of genres and bends those elements at free will. I found this amazing because the record gives such an enormous atmosphere.

This album blends elements of indie-pop, dream-pop, bedroom, and alternative pop, along with some indie rock and cinematic backbone so it all comes together with this spacious underbelly that you get pulled into and once you're there, you don't really want to leave.

That is part of the brilliance of this record as a whole. It is one of those albums that you don't just listen to one or two songs from. Listening to a few tracks won't give you an idea of what you can expect.

Only listening to this album from beginning to end can give you the full spectrum of what it has to offer.

Now, this is about half an hour in length spanning 11 tracks or so, and each of them has something a bit different to offer musically and lyrically.

There is R&B mixed in with some jazz undertone, but you also have some of that personal attribute that lends a hand to the record having a particular aesthetic.

That aesthetic is that this is a record that feels like it serves as chapters in the artist's life.

When you listen to the album as a whole, you get an experience. Something that you can escape into for a good chunk of time and that to me is rewarding.

A blend of digital and natural instrumentation floods this soundscape from beginning to end. You will be able to flow right along certain tracks and really let this whole thing engulf you.

It sounds intense, I know. But it feels good to let this record wrap itself around you and keep you where it wants to.

For me, there were moments throughout the album that it caused memories of my own to pop into my head.

And this is one of the elements that let me get washed away with everything.

There is absolutely plenty of emotional pull throughout this record and as I mentioned earlier, there's a lot of inner thought that comes spilling out everywhere so there's plenty to soak in in terms of the emotion, feeling, and thoughts that are strewn about the course of the album.

I definitely loved soaking this in and I would suggest that when you do it, not only do you listen to the full record of course, but you do it with headphones on because this way you can really take in all of the layers and textures that this record gives you.

This is a bit of a deepening record with certain elements that can feel existential lyrically. It also has these gorgeous and again, thick personalities, and musical soundscapes that float around and help create those particular atmospheres.

For example, certain songs have synth pads that just float through the ether of them and that is something that builds the cinematic backbone and gets you pulled into this otherworldly feeling place.

This was an absolutely gorgeous record from beginning to end, have a sit-down, and listen to this record with headphones on for half an hour. I promise it'll be well worth your time, and it will have an effect on you in some way shape or form.

Remember where you heard it first.
