The latest single from Oceansides takes on a hard driving alternative rock feel that touches on classic pop-punk undertones and keeps to a heavier edge accompanied by massive melodies and smashing drums that cut through everything and keep the track slamming with heart and feeling as guitars wail on and give this early 2000's underground soundscape along with a bassline that empowers the rest of the band.
"Barricades" is huge and is performed with a cinematic undertone that lets it breathe and sway through these layers and as it does, it also manages to tell a story and build with intensity as the song plays on.
These guys certainly have no problem adding in these beautiful layers of ambient textures that swell and pull you in.
What's even cooler than just the song itself is the music video that accompanies it. This is a really intense and sort of engulfing video that works all too well for the song itself somehow.
You get some storyline and some great band shots as well and it all comes together with a tasteful approach.
This track showcases the band's ability to create these massive, high production songs that still destroy and rock with an emotional undertone and drive. So, you always get that heart, and this is what makes Oceansides powerful.
With such a killer single and video, we wanted to touch base with Oceansides to find out where this track came from and what may be next for them.
Here's what happened.
Buzz Slayers: Let's kick things off with "Barricade". This song has a great pop-rock feel to it. Where did this song come from?
Thank you! The Idea for this Song is existing for a pretty long time now, I think I wrote it back in 2019. Sadly the pandemic came between and now we finally got it on a record.
This one has a very personal story about me standing in front of myself mentally which was very hard back in the past. This also reflects in the instrumental parts and also in the music video
Buzz Slayers: When did this all start for you guys?
We started the Band back in 2019, When me (Nico, Guitarist+Singer) wanted to revive the old idea of having a band together with Mike (Drums). So we decided to give it another shot. Later that year Maxi and Marvin who are also old friends of us found their way in the band and we were then known as Oceansides
Buzz Slayers: What inspires you to write a song?
We get a lot of various inspirations to write a song, but most of the time there are own experiences, certain waves of feelings happening together with current events in life. Sometimes they might be good, and sometimes bad. For the upcoming EP they were mostly bad.
Buzz Slayers: This song has some great styles! Can you give us some of your top musical influences?
That’s nice to hear, our main influences are emo, pop punk, and metalcore. For Example: Stand Atlantic, Neck Deep, The Story So Far, Blink 182, Belmont.
Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?
We all have different interest besides working on music
Maxi (Leadguitar): Studying (Medicine student), bouldering, running, reading
Nico(Guitar+Vocals): Photography/Filming
Marvin (Bass): Reading, Skating, Biking
Mike: Skating, Biking
Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now?
Stuck Out, Weighbridge, Rain Check (Maxi)
Belmont, Citizen (Mike)
Stand Atlantic, Polaris, Boston Manor, Movements (Nico)
Jinjer (Marvin)
Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?
Not right at the moment, but the next show will be in February, and we got a little tour prepared starting in March next year
Buzz Slayers: This song feels like a big undertaking, is there any advice you'd give to other up and coming bands out there?
Always trust in yourself, and let no one decide about your dreams. Follow them at all cost, and never give up
Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?
We got a few more singles coming up, together with a brand new EP in April 2023
Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
Thank you so much for investing your time in our music, without you this wouldn’t be possible!
