A new single release from Natalie Gauci brings on a fiery and character riddled soundscape that comes through in this massive and full-bodied soul funk tonality which is incredibly addictive from the second it starts to the second it ends.
"Melting" is an absolute Banger and it comes with a particular energy that you end up feeding off of within seconds of the song playing.
Natalie's delivery and approach on this single is everything because she steps into this character so well that your blood starts pumping and you get a grasp of that energy and tone that all wraps itself around you and keeps you right where it wants you.
This song is crazy infectious and her presence is something to be in awe of as the whole band actually feels like they're feeding off of each other's energies the entire time.
Because of that, you get this almost live performance feel and that in itself is something that you end up wanting by the end of the track. You want to go see her perform this live in your face because it's got to be amazing especially with what's portrayed on the recording itself.
This was an absolute soiree and you find yourself humming those Melodies whether it's the vocals or the horn sections, for hours after the song has ended and the only way to satiate that is to play the song again.
There's never a moment where you lose any energy or character and there's such a flavor to this song that makes it so lush and so wondrous in a way that you end up wanting to find out more about Natalie.
If you do decide to do this, it's definitely a pleasant surprise to find that she's got a massive back catalog out there and there's so much of it that stands on its own two feet that it would take an entire day to soak it all in.
This would definitely be a fun day of course but if you do such a thing, we suggest starting with this single because it gives you a good feel of where she's at right now and what's up coming.
This was impactful and came through as this heavy groove powerhouse of a single that you can't turn away from and with its release we wanted to have a sit-down with Natalie to find out where it actually did come from and what might be coming up next for her.
Here is what happened.
Buzz Slayers: Okay Natalie, let's start with "Melting"! This single had such a flavor and groove! You had to get up and dance to this! How did this track come about?
I WAS LIVING IN LONDON, I HAD CHANGED MY NAME TO "NELLIE BELL" BY DEED POLL AND WAS SEARCHING FOR WHO I REALLY WAS. I WAS WORKING WITH A FAMOUS ARTIST OVER THERE AT THE TIME AND FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS LABEL MANAGER! HE WAS A SINGLE DAD, BUT HE WASN'T EMOTIONALY UAVAILABLE. I HAD A REALLY BAD HABIT OF CHOOSING GUYS WHO WERE JUST EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLE AND COULDN'T SHARE LOVING, REAL HONEST AND OPEN CONVERSATION BECAUSE DEEP DOWN, THAT'S WHAT MAKES ME FEEL SEXY AS A YOUNG WOMAN. I WROTE THIS SONG ABOUT HIM. ALL I WANTED WAS TO BE LOVED BY HIM, HUGGED BY HIM, BUT HE JUST WANTED THE LATE NIGHT SLEEP OVERS BUT I WANTED MORE. I ENDED UP LEARNING A LOT FROM THAT RELATIONSHIP, HOW TO STAND UP FOR MYSELF AND SAY NO, THAT I DESERVE REAL LOVE.
Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you musically?
WHEN I WAS 3, MY MUM STARTED TO TAKE ME TO DANCE AND ACTING CLASSES. I LOVED IT, HAD A FILM AND TV DIPLOMA AT 12YRS, PRACTICED PIANO SINCE I WAS 8 YRS AND WENT ON TO DO MUSICAL THEATRE. I THEN WENT INTO DEPRESSION FROM SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED TO ME AS A TEENAGER WHICH CAUSED TRAUMA AND I TURNED TO WRITING MUSIC TO RELEASE MY DEPRESSION AND I STARTED WRITING MUSIC AND LEARNING HOW TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER. MY DREAM WAS TO BE FAMOUS, AND I ACHIEVED THIS WHEN I TOOK THE TITLE OF AUSTRALIAN IDOL WINNER. I THEN HAD TIME TO WRITE AND PRODUCE MUSIC AND RELEASE MY OWN VISIONS TO EXPRESS MYSELF. INCLUDING MELTING. I RAISED FUNDS TO PRODUCE MELTING AND PUSHED TO GET MY VISION OUT FOR THE SONG WHICH WASN'T EASY TO DO WITH A FULL BIG BAND, BUT I DID IT WITH HELP OF MY FAMILY, FRIENDS AND FANS.
Buzz Slayers: What kind of things really inspire songs for you?
LIFE EXPERIENCE, SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES, HEARTACHE AND MY BREAK UPS AS WELL AS MY RELATIONSHIPS WITH MY FAMILY. I LOVE WRITING ABOUT THINGS THAT TOUCH MY HEART AND MAKE ME FEEL DEEP THINGS AND SOMETIMES I JUST LOVE A GOOD MELODY AND A GREAT BEAT.
Buzz Slayers: This song has some great styles combinations on it! Can you give us some of your biggest influences musically?
AMY WINEHOUSE WAS A MASSIVE INFLUNCE FOR MELTING AND SO WAS ROB THOMAS AND SANTANA. I DEFINITELY COMBINED THE TWO INFLUENCES FOR THIS TRACK. I ALSO LOVE SPANISH MUSIC, JAZZ, FUNK AND SOUL. ELLA FITZGERALD, NATALIE COLE, NINA SIMONE, WHITNEY HOUSTON, MARIAH, MADONNA... IT'S DEFITELY A MIXED BAG OF 80'S, 90'S AND 2000'S.
Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?
BEING A MUM. I ALSO HAVE A VOCAL COACHING BUSINESS. I DO MENTORING, WORKSHOPS AND LOVE SHARING MY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES WITH THE YOUNGER GENERATION COMING THROUGH. I LOVE BEING A MUM. I ALSO WRITE BOOKS. I HAVE JUST WRITTEN A SELF HELP BOOK CALLED "HOW TO GET OUT OF A BROKEN RELATIONSHIP".
Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now?
LET IT GO - JAMES BAY SMALL TOWN TEMPLE - ELLA HOOPER WISH YOU WERE - PINK FLOYD THIS IS OUR CHURCH - MATT CORNELL AND ADAM BRAND BLIPPI - THAT'S MY SON'S FAV! SPICE - SPICEGIRLS RUMOURS - FLEETWOOD MAC SHANIA TWAIN - COMPILATION PLAYERS - COI LERAY Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?
I'M WORKING ON A LIVE NATIONAL TOUR AT THE MOMENT FOR NEW ALBUM. I ALSO HAVE A RESIDENCY AT TWIN TOWNS IN TWEED HEADS, NEXT SHOW IS 1ST APRIL, THEN 3RD JUNE.
Buzz Slayers: Did you record yourself or hit a big studio for this?
I WROTE THE SONG IN MY BEDROOM ON KEYS AND VOCALS, THEN I WENT TO A BIG RECORDING STUDIO TO RECORD THE DRUMS, PIANO AND BASS WITH A LIVE BAND. AMY WINEHOUSE'S DRUMMER PLAYED ON THIS RECORD. WE THEN GOT THE HORNS RECORDED BY THE MUSICAL DIRECTOR FROM JOOL'S HOLLAND BAND. I HAD A GOOD FRIEND RECORD THE GUITARS FROM HIS STUDIO IN MELBOURNE AND I DID MY OWN BV'S. IT WAS A MISSION! I PRODUCED THE SONG WITH AN ENGINEER IN LONDON.
Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?
I HAVE A NEW ALBUM COMING. I'VE BEEN IN THE STUDIO RECORDING RECENTLY AND ABOUT TO GO BACK TO FINISH THE ENTIRE ALBUM. THIS ALBUM SPEAKS ABOUT MY FAME, WHAT I THOUGHT AND BELIEVED TRUE LOVE WAS, BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE LUST NOT LOVE. IT'S MORE A LIVE BAND 70'S SOUND WITH SOME COUNTRY GUITARS!
Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
TO ALL MY FANS WHO LISTEN TO MY MUSIC AND MY SONG MELTING, THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND FOR LISTENING. I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT, GROOVE TO IT AND THAT IT BRINGS YOU JOY IN SOME WAY. THAT'S WHY I DO WHAT I DO, IT'S FOR THE FANS!
