A new release from MUSIC//FOR//SAD//PEOPLE brings on a soiree of genres in one massive record that crosses boundaries and breeds a certain brand of honest and it's done with an array of outstanding songwriting that leaves surprises around every turn.
The SELF//TITLED album is massive and has everything from heartfelt acoustic ballads that feel cinematic and emotional, to bright and colorful pop songs that feature plucking guitars and tons of vocal character.
You get indie-pop as well with swelling synth pads and keys that drive songs into a totally new place each time.
Even pop rock bangers that have crunching electric guitars but still keep to that softer undertone lurking just beneath the surface.
This album has all kinds of songwriting but it's always incredibly upfront lyrically and well written.
The words of these songs are personal and straight forward and must have been hard to talk about. So, they became songs instead and they are performed with energy and vocal quirks that make it all unique.
This record gives its all and the band really showcases they're abilities as musicians from top to bottom.
Most importantly, they seem to be having a damn good time doing their thing and that's also important.
With the release of such a unique and personal album, we wanted to have a chat with the band to find out where this all came from and what may be upcoming for them.
Here's what happened.
Buzz Slayers: Let's kick things off with self titled Music//For//Sad//People album. This record has a killer alternative and punk rock feel to it. Where did this album come from?
This album comes from maturing and reflecting on past feelings, in a sense it's a breakup album but not your stereotypical breakup album.
Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you guys?
MUSIC//FOR//SAD//PEOPLE started after I attempted to take my own life, and when I survived it made me want to create music for other people. Music helped save me and I wanted to make music to help save other people. We released our leading single //BIGLOUD// eight months after my attempt.
Buzz Slayers: What inspires you guys to write a song?
It's a mixture of feelings and seeing how other people express those same feelings. I want to create something unique but also relatable.
Buzz Slayers: This record has some great styles! Can you all give us some of your top musical influences?
Some of our biggest musical influences are The1975, LANY, My Chemical Romance. These three artists had incredible first albums that had lasting effects and we were inspired by that to see what we could do with our first album.
Buzz Slayers: What are you all doing when you're NOT working on music?
We're both big into comics, collectables, and retro gaming. We're working our way into getting our foot in the door with acting and modeling. We're both artists and writers on top of that, and have comics and stories in the works.
Buzz Slayers: Who's in all your headphones right now?
We've been listening to the new music that The1975, LANY, YUNGBLUD and My Chemical Romance have put out. Beabadoobee's new album has made its way into our daily playlists too. FUN. and The Format are always favorites that we never get tired of.
Buzz Slayers: Are you guys doing any live performances right now?
We just finished up our three big summer shows. We headlined all three, and one sold out. Unfortunately we had a couple shows get canceled due to circumstances outside of our control. Right now we're taking a break from live performances and working on new music and music videos. Our fans can look forward to a recorded studio performance sometime in the near future.
Buzz Slayers: This record feels like a big undertaking, is there any advice you'd give to other up and coming bands out there?
The biggest piece of advice I can give is don't compare yourself to any other bands, especially ones that achieved quick success, only compare yourself to who you were yesterday. Don't listen to your critics, instead make something you are a fan of. My next piece of advice is try to find people you can work well with, and be careful of who you work with. And finally, you have to put yourself out there, you will always hear flaws that no one else will, but you have to start somewhere.
Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you guys in the near future?
We're currently working on a series of EPs and music videos. In the near future we're going to record a studio live performance complete with video so that we can give everyone that couldn't make it to our shows the experience of seeing us perform.
Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
The success we have achieved, even if it's small in the scope of things, has surpassed well beyond what we could have imagined. We thank you all for your support and hope that you'll keep supporting us and sharing our work. It means the world. THANK YOU//I LOVE YOU
