A blistering new single from Lipstick Stains breeds a ferocious and rebellious riot rock sound that draws from the blood of bands like L7 and keep that gritty grunge alive with a massive character and allure that makes it all theatrical and bountiful complete with riffs and breakdowns that shake the ground beneath your feet, and high-octane vocals from start to finish.
"Discoteca" is just powerful and hard hitting like a punch to the gut with no warning.
They keep true to the genre and layer on that attitude and fiery undertones with a sharp but hug guitar tone and pounding drums to go along with screaming and yelling vocals that lower down to grunts and growls but always with that allure and sexiness that fits perfectly with the trashing happening.
This song is brutal in the best ways possible. You want more of it as soon as its done and it really does call back to the originators and pays homage to the lovely ladies that bred this style.
This was so well done it's crazy. It's incredibly genuine and just smacks you in the face and gets your attention.
With such a killer single, we had to have a chat with Lipstick Stains to find out where this track came from and what may be next for them.
Here's what happened.
Buzz Slayers: This track has an outstanding riot rock feel and all the attitude that comes with it! Where did this single come from? We typically like to let the creative juices flow when bringing a new song to life. While writing, we usually don't put much thought into the song's finished product - we just let the universe take the lead and buckle up for a ride on the melodic journey. We outlined the heavy-hitting and dancy music and inevitably came up with the catchy love-song lyrics. We wanted to create a fun track that both hits you in the feels, but also punches you in the gut.
Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for the band?
Xanthe (vocals) and Ryan (guitar) recorded the first EP "Garter Straps & Bottle Caps" in the summer of 2018 with the intent to find members. Ever since, we have hit the ground running with playing shows, promoting, recording, and collaborating. We are now joined by Zak (bass) and Michael (drums). We have also released EPs "Open Your Eyes" and "Controlled Chaos" and are now signed to Emotions False Records with the release of "Discoteca".
Buzz Slayers: What inspires you to write a song?
We're regularly influenced and we pull inspiration and creativity from several sources. Sometimes we write songs because of the way another band energizes us or because of the way a song makes us feel. Our lyrics typically touch on mental health, addiction, self-esteem, and equality..
Buzz Slayers: This track has some great styles! Can you give us some of your top musical influences?
We listen to anything from grunge to modern-day punk to 80's hardcore to 60's singer-songwriters.
Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?
Hiking, making art, playing video games, traveling, hanging with dogs, and going to shows.
Buzz Slayers: Who's in all your headphones right now?
GEL, Kills Birds, Drug Church, OFF!, Bad Waitress, Superbloom, Witch Fever, Scowl, Denzel Curry.
Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?
10/29: Jackson, MS - Hal & Mal's
11/19: Little Rock, AR - Vino's 12/10: Nashville, TN - Punk Rock Flea Market @ Eastside Bowl
12/30: Little Rock, AR - Fourth Quarter 12/31: Memphis, TN - HiTone Cafe
Buzz Slayers: This single feels like a big undertaking, is there any advice you'd give to other up and coming bands out there?
Stay true to yourself and your style, write what you want to hear, and always put heart, soul, and lots of work into everything you do.
Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?
We will be throwing more music your way and we will also be going hard with touring in 2023!
Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
