A new single released by Josh Alexander delivers a wonderfully woven pop soiree and also touches on a little bit of holiday tonality as the track comes through with a bit of an intense and honest approach that goes into some love and heartbreak.
"Stormy Haze" certainly feels like it focuses on the range of emotions that come along with certain kinds of heartbreak and how he is preparing for that storm to come.
I find this very interesting because it blends in that bit of holiday essence with this very honest and upfront pop approach in terms of the lyrics and it's something that I haven't quite heard combined before.
Now, this track has massive hooks and choruses that bounce around in your head for quite a long time after the song is ended and the production is absolutely outstanding the entire time.
This is a very current feeling pop single and although it is emotionally driven, it's colorful in terms of its musical approach and those hooks.
There are even segments with whistling. It's been such a long time since I've heard a whistling hook in a track, but it really works so well here that it's incredible.
This was not only addictive and genuine, but it also made you think because anyone who's dealt with certain kinds of struggles in a relationship can really relate to it.
I think that the lyrical approach to this song is brilliant because he explained so much in such a short time as the track is a 3-minute radio pop single.
His vocals are super soulful, and they have a bit of power and impact behind them which gives them swagger but also a lot of character and that is something that this track is just oozing with. It's got tons of character to it, and this is one of the aspects that let it connect with whoever's listening to it.
His performance has a vibe to it and that vibe gets in your bones so you can really feel that energy in that Soul coming through which is one of the most impactful parts of the track.
But, as I said before, this track is produced super well so it's very crisp, and clean, but it also has a bountiful and full-bodied soundscape to it so you can really get into it and by the time that third chorus comes in, you're singing right alongside.
I definitely dig the holiday undertone mixed with that heartbreak honesty because there's only been a few holiday tracks that approach this topic and do it well, and this one does it differently. This track is not just focused on the holiday and the heartbreak. The heartbreak is on the forefront. The story is what you're listening to. That relationship, and what has happened during it, along with the emotional backbone that comes with everything is what the focus is.
The holiday aspect is just something that sort of hinted at and I like this.
I think this was a smart way to approach the track so that the important factor is really in your face which also gives the song a little bit more heart.
I definitely love how this track was constructed, arranged, and performed.
It was completely catchy and again, super memorable as you want to go back and listen to the song much later on because it's been bouncing around in your head for all this time.
With the release of such a wonderful single, we wanted to sit down with Josh Alexander to talk about where this song actually came from so we could get the story behind it all.
Here's what happened.
Buzz Slayers: Hey Josh, and thanks for taking a moment with us!
- Hey! Thank you for having me!
Buzz Slayers: I’d like to talk about “Stormy Haze”! That was a great track with a colorful pop overtone to it! Where did this song come from exactly?
- This was an original song, written and composed by me and Alexis Leroy-
Pleshoyano.
Buzz Slayers: Can you give us some of your biggest musical influences?
- My biggest musical influences are Coldplay, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Jack Johnson, Dua Lipa, and my all-time favorite, John Legend.
Buzz Slayers: Did you write and compose this track as well?
- I did. I wrote this track with Alexis Leroy-Pleshoyano.
Buzz Slayers: This was originally done in French, correct? What made you want to do an English version?
- Yes, that’s correct! With everything I’ve been going through in my personal life at the moment, I thought it was appropriate to have a version in English that better resonates with the music I’m creating today. I really wanted to offer my listeners and fans a glimpse into my current chapter.
Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you are not working on music?
- I’m either spending time with my siblings back home in Quebec City, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, biking, or out with my friends for either a chill night in or a night out dancing!
Buzz Slayers: Who’s in your headphones right now?
- I’ve been listening to a lot of older Coldplay music lately. There’s nothing like nostalgic Coldplay songs. Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head are my go-to albums!
Buzz Slayers: What can we expect next from you?
- I’m currently working on my upcoming EP. This new body of work will be more personal than the last and will bring my listeners into my world and onto my journey like never before.
Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?
- Yes! I’m currently getting ready for two live shows! I’m set to perform in Quebec City on March 13th, 2025, at L’Anti Bar and in Montreal on March 20th, 2025, at Le Ministère. I’ll be sharing the stage with Miles Clayton. Come and support us! Tickets will be available soon, make sure to follow me on my socials for updates!
Buzz Slayers: What would you say is your favorite part about doing this?
- I’d say being in the studio and writing songs is super healing for my inner child. But singing them on stage and connecting with the audience is my absolute favorite part, it’s where the magic really happens!
Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say or express to the fans of your music?
- Thank you so much for supporting my music. It means the world to me. Keep listening, sharing, and connecting, I can’t wait to share more of my journey with you soon!
