A new release from Evan Croft brings out a particularly Lush and infectious soundscape that blends a jazz undertone with a smooth R&B feel that together create an atmosphere you want to dive into and maybe never come out of.
"Have You Seen This Girl?" it's all the sweet spots with an outstanding array of instrumentation that incorporates everything from horns to keys and it all adds to that atmosphere Evan has created.
You can tell that this song speaks truth and came from someplace genuine and that is something everyone looks for in an artist like this one so it's very refreshing and satiating to be able to listen to something with this much character.
This release is certainly full-bodied, and you can feel and hear certain influences peeking through during the course of the track, but you also get this wonderful staple feel for the artist and a really good frame of reference for his approach as a songwriter.
The single is riddled with hooks and melodies that end up bouncing around in your head for hours after the song is ended and the only way to really satisfy that is to listen to the track again which in my opinion is just plain old great songwriting.
You get that great soulful delivery in the vocals that shines with presents and just comes through with an authentic tonality while also being able to get into the groove of the music easily.
As a matter of fact, this feels like the kind of song that you absolutely have to move to.
There's a certain energy and attitude that builds into a sort of swagger if you will that lets you get attached to the song really fast, and once you are there you just want more of it.
There's a lot about this track that gives you an example of an artist that is doing his own thing and with fewer boundaries than those that came before so it's very inviting and welcoming.
This is also a great example of an excellent mix of old and new school songwriting and Arrangement styles that really seem to work wonders when put together.
But the biggest thing is that vocal delivery and how it drives the song to where it needs to be.
With such a well woven single we wanted to have a sit-down with Evan Croft to find out where this track actually came from because there is definitely a story there.
We also wanted to know what may be coming up next for the artist, so we had to sit down with him to find these things out.
Here's what happened.
Buzz Slayers: Okay, let's start with "Have You Seen This Girl?" This single had such a natural flow that combined styles so well!! How did this track come about?
It was something I experienced years ago. I went to a club to cut loose, met a beautiful lady, bought her a drink and the moment I took my eyes off her, she was gone. After some time looking for her, I debated whether she was real or a dream.
Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you as an artist? When did you fall in love with music?
I was a big fan of music at a young age. Even when I played video games, I’d stop playing at one point just to hear the background music. Buzz Slayers: What kind of things really inspire songs for you?
Music, stories, real life, and fantasy inspire me to continue creating.
Buzz Slayers: This single has some great styles on it! Can you give us some of your biggest influences musically?
I’ll give you my top five influences: Michael Jackson, 2Pac, Chris Brown, Logic and Ne-Yo Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?
I’m either playing basketball, reading a book, playing a video game and/or checking up on family. Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Afrobeats recently. So, artists like Burna Boy, Fireboy DML, Rema, Omah Lay, and Wizkid. Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?
None at the moment, but I’m getting some shows lined up for the fall Buzz Slayers: Did you record this yourself or hit a big studio for this?
I recorded this myself at my home studio. I started using my home studio since lockdown. Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?
Expect my Compilation album, The Croft Collection, dropping August 25th.
Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
Thank you so much for showing love to the track and I hope you’ll continue to support my music.
