A new release from Dallas Alexander delivers a full -bodied and classic country approach that blends itself into heartland rock and feels really good as the record delivers mounds of character and personality that you end up getting really attached to by the end of it all.
The Can't Blame My Bloodline album is riddled with outstanding, Southern toned guitar work and instrumentation like violin that really bring this record to life but it's really more the honesty, in your face attitude, and energy that gets you pulled into the whole thing.
The record features what sounds like 12 string guitars, mandolins, and just amazing percussion and the whole release has a way of feeling like you're watching a live performance.
There's a ton of heart throughout this record and I feel like this is something that means a lot to Dallas because he's really letting a lot out. You can tell they're inner thoughts that he kept in there for a while and told his record was made and then finally let them loose and I love that because it's part of that personality that sticks throughout the record.
There are tracks that really hit hard in an emotional way as he manages to paint pictures and do duets with collaborators and those tracks feel insanely cinematic to me.
I love the vibes that come off of this album because he's just letting it all out there, and to me, he's utilizing so many different influences throughout the records unfolding that you can kind of pick up on them as you listen.
Not only do you get classic country but you also get classic rock, soul, and more just embodied within this album and I feel like each track is really Dallas giving a little piece of himself.
It's almost like each of these songs serve as a chapter in his life and if you listen to the entire record then you get a really good picture of those parts of him.
This is indeed the kind of record where you don't just listen to one or two songs. One or two songs will give you an idea of what the record holds but it won't give you the full spectrum of what it has to offer as an album.
These are stories and they come from personal perspectives. They are performed vocally with passion, heart, and that classic southern underbelly that really lets these songs take you on some musical Journeys.
He also has a lot of fun. You can tell that these songs show the fun side of his personality as well because he has humor in the songs, he tells you straight up that he is doing things his way and he's having a blast doing it.
This thriving kind of energy is something that's infectious throughout the entire course of the record. Even the songs that have a little bit of a deeper kind of meaning or a reminiscent of his past, you still get this beautiful energy that latches on to you and this is something you end up feeding off of.
I feel like this is kind of special simply because he does give those pieces of himself throughout the record and you feel like you just sat down with an old friend you haven't seen in a long time after you're through listening to it.
That is something not a lot of albums have to offer so when you come across one that does, it's really refreshing and even rejuvenating in a way.
Dallas performs on a normal basis and had a string of shows through November ending with an iconic one this December 6th at the Cook County Saloon which is an iconic venue in Edmonton Alberta.
When you listen to this record you can also tell that he is a live performer. The energy and the emotional levels, the way everything was built, put together, and performed on this album let you know that he's awesome to see live.
I definitely love an album that you can listen to and know that seeing them live would be amazing.
With the release of this record, we wanted to have a sit down with Dallas to talk about not only the record but a specific single called "Meet You At The Riverbank".
We also wanted to find out more of how this all started for him and what may be coming up next.
Here's what happened.
Buzz Slayers: Hey Dallas and thanks so much for taking some time with us!
I would love to start off talking about "Meet You at The Riverbank". This was a warm and rustic track with gorgeous acoustics and that deep southern approach! Where did this track come from?
The inspiration came from driving home from a gig one late night around 2AM and in my mind I was thinking, ahhh so glad I don’t have to go to church the next morning. And this was the idea I brought to a write, in Nashville with Blue Foley and Trick Savage. The sound is a little more stripped down and acoustic style, and the lyrics portray a message that God ain’t only at church ;)
Buzz Slayers: When did this all really start for you as an artist and musician?
A) In the fall of 2019, as I was nearing the end of my military career, I dove headfirst into a new musical journey. It felt like the perfect time to explore this passion, to channel everything I had learned and experienced into something raw and real—something all my own.
Buzz Slayers: I love the classic country tones of this song! Can you give us some of your biggest musical influences?
I draw a lot of inspiration from the old-school outlaw country artists—Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson—those are the legends whose music I grew up on. But I also find a lot of fire in what’s happening in the scene today, with artists like Whiskey Myers, Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson, and my personal favorite, Jamey Johnson. What really resonates with me is storytelling, the way those artist’s songs’ paint pictures of life and struggle, love and loss. When I make music, I aim to keep it stripped down and true to its roots, always showcasing those classic country instruments—because in my book, you can never have too much fiddle!
Buzz Slayers: Who is in your headphones right now?
I can never get enough of the music from my favorite artists—Johnny Cash, Waylon, Sturgill, Jamey, Colter, Whiskey Myers and even Post Malone. Their songs are on repeat in my life. Music fills our house from morning till night. It';s more than just background noise: it’s a constant, a thread that ties everything together.
Buzz Slayers: Looks like you have some shows you are performing soon all through this month! Do you love that as much as recording?
I thoroughly enjoy the creative process of songwriting and recording—it’s a deeply rewarding experience, but nothing compares to the energy of playing live and connecting with my fans. That’s where the real magic happens for me. There's something about the crowd, the vibe, the shared energy that lights me up every time. We have an absolute blast out there, and that’s why we’re hitting the road so much. It’s all about that live experience.
Buzz Slayers: One of your upcoming performances will be a headlining show at the iconic Cook County Saloon in Edmonton! How did you land this gig and how excited are you for this one?
Hell yeah! I’m beyond stoked for this show! It’s crazy how full circle this all feels. I’ll never forget the day I retired from the military—spent it watching Gord Bamford tear it up at this very venue. That was the day I met him, and shortly after, we started working together. I even told my buddies that night, "I’m coming back here to play Cook County one day". And now, here we are! It’s wild to see it all come together like this. Trust me, it’s going to be a night to remember—tell your mama!
Buzz Slayers: Now that this single is out there, what's next for you as an artist?
Touring, touring, touring—coming to a town near you, so tell your mama! We’re hitting the road hard, and I can’t wait to see you all out there. On top of that, we’re making the move down to Nashville more permanently, and I’m absolutely stoked about it. New chapter, new energy, and I’m ready to soak it all in. Big things ahead!
Buzz Slayers: There is some outstanding instrumentation on this track. Are you performing any instruments along with singing and writing the song?
I always have my guitar in hand… sometimes even while I sleep lol
Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you are not making music?
Carrying babies around, haha... That’s the real adventure! But when I’m not chasing little ones, I’m all about spending time with family, soaking up the outdoors, and of course—music, music, music. It’s a good balance. Family, fresh air, and tunes—that’s the good life right there.
Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what do you want to say to fans out there?
I just want to say how much I appreciate you and all the support you’ve shown—it honestly blows me away every time I get the chance to personally connect. The generosity, the stories, it’s humbling, and it makes all of this even more meaningful. Thank you for being a part of it.
Buzz Slayers: Thank you again Dallas for taking the time to talk with us!
