A recent single release from James Wilson delivers such a unique and Lush breed of honesty that you can't help but get attached to the character and personality that's given off throughout the song's unfolding.
"Ruins" is about betrayal. The lyrics of this track can be so descriptive but semi-metaphoric at the same time so, you were able to pick up on the mistrust, the mishandling of love, and the emotional fallout of whatever happened.
Because of all of this, the track is insanely relatable to plenty of people but I feel like for James, it must have been cathartic to write and release.
It's just so personal and so genuine that you end up really understanding exactly where it's coming from and that inner thought that comes spilling out throughout the song is intense at times.
One of the reasons I love this track is simply because all of us have thoughts like these. Thoughts that are built from emotion or feelings. A lot of us do not know how to articulate that into words, let alone words and music, so when you hear a song like this one, it hits you a certain way.
For some of us, it may feel like we're not alone in these kinds of thoughts or struggles.
This is all part of the beauty of music. Being able to take what you're hearing and relate it to your own life, especially if the song has this beautiful intensity to it that you can understand.
Soundscape and it's got that rustic backbone to it with a stomping kick drum and just a very full-bodied feeling acoustic guitar.
The vocals are performed with great passion and soul so you can tell it's kind of like a cry-out. It's authentic and you pick up on that right from the get-go which again, is something that gives it all that thick personality you end up holding onto.
This was a brave single that does get beautifully descriptive in terms of unleashing those emotions and how he's able to describe the certain element of pain that comes along with the betrayal of love.
Now, again, this is just my take on the song. I feel like certain people will soak this song in differently depending on who they are.
For me, it felt pretty straightforward in terms of the way I grabbed the sentiment of it. But again, I didn't write the song so I could be wrong.
As well as the acoustic guitar and some percussion but it's those vocals that really reach out and grab you.
There's also something about the track that feels like it's alive in the moment. As if this was recorded in one take live on the floor.
There is a beautiful energy that's captured here. This adds to that personality but also the genuine feeling of vulnerability.
This is the kind of song that ends up sticking around in your brain for hours after it's ended and the only way to satiate that is to go and listen to it again.
For me, this had memories of my own pop into my head and random and I feel like that's because of the connection that I made with the sentiment of the song.
This was gorgeous and shined in terms of letting James show his presence as an artist and how he's able to not only write songs with a real purpose behind them but also deliver them in a way that has heart and a meaningful tonality.
This was very well performed all the way through, and I would definitely suggest listening to this one with headphones on so you can soak in everything, especially those lyrics.
Dive into this track as soon as you can and remember where you heard it first.
