The latest single from Twice Dark just dropped and this track has an amazing way of capturing a damn near perfect goth Laden darkwave and post-punk approach with everything from the right synth tones to guitar sections, this song gives me little bouts of nostalgia because it sounds like stuff I grew up listening to.
This track is called "Invisible Man", and not only does it have this classic almost retro synthwave undertone to it, but it carries with it a balance of color and edginess that gives the song a very particular but very forward-moving flow.
Again, the choice of key and synth tones was amazing because this really helped capture that sort of early to mid 90s darkwave effect and this is part of what that nostalgic undertone comes from.
But it wasn't just that. The way the track was even mixed shows you that there was a lot of attention to detail during the creation of the song, but it also has something that I find a lot of music is missing these days.
That thing is character. This track is oozing with character and if you listen to the lyrics, it is semi-metaphorical but also straightforward at the same time.
He could be talking about a particular situation in a relationship and how he feels invisible. He could be talking about how he feels invisible to the world. But he says it in a way that has that gothic almost vampiric approach.
The whole thing was really well thought out and it's super danceable, super fun, super classic, and it has this level of energy to it that is very dynamically balanced.
You have those classic vocals that are kind of brooding and that goes along with music that at times does have that dark edge to it but during the chorus, it has a much brighter feel.
This even makes me think of bands like The Cure for example. Musically, this is not much like The Cure but in terms of how the music can feel bright and uplifting at certain points while the lyrics are quite down and dark in a way, does make me think of bands like that.
You can sense a little bit of realism in this track lyrically. Like it came from someplace genuine.
There's a certain level of authenticity that comes through with this song and I feel like the whole thing was again, very well thought out but because of that the entire aesthetic was completely nailed.
Nothing about it was overtaking but instead, all the elements of the song helped push the others.
The energies were balanced. The way the vocals were performed balanced out the energy of the way the music came through.
To me, the vocals had a bit of a softer approach while that synth riff in the song was loud and sharp, and those two elements complement each other because they balance each other.
This was quite an addictive track, and it has hooks. When it's over you think about those hooks, and you have to go listen to the song again just to get it out of your brain as strange as that sounds.
I had a lot of fun with this song and if you are a fan of darkwave, synth pop, post-punk, or anything like that, you're going to absolutely love this track. Even industrial. It even has elements of industrial in there. Again, not over the top but blended in with the other genres that the song portrays.
This was a killer single and you should definitely check it out because not only will they give you those bouts of nostalgia at different times but it's very easy to get into and very easy to dance to.
Take a deep dive into this track when you can and remember where you heard it first.
