A recent release from The Dead Reds delivers something quite alive and breathing and gives off an intense energy level that grows and becomes more prominent as the song unfolds as it blends this gritty and edgy blues tonality and songwriting in with a vibrancy that you can't turn away from.
"Radical Mind" starts off with this awesome guitar section that's slower and vast. It feels like classic rock from the late seventies and even the tone of that guitar in the intro has the aesthetic of vintage rock songs.
This grows and the song speeds up and changes into this blues rock banger and it just picks up so much drive like a train picking up traction and speed.
Not only do you become addicted to that progression and how fast it becomes what it's becoming, but you're sort of blown away by it at the same time because it's not at all how the song started off and you find yourself wondering what exactly just happened.
I love this aspect so much that I can't even explain it to you.
The energy captured on this track is unbelievable. It's almost as if they recorded this live on the floor, in the moment so that everyone involved could feed off of each other's energies and deliver something with this level of intensity.
I could be completely wrong about the whole live on the floor recording aspect but let me tell you, when you listen to this track you want to go see them perform it live simply because, if this kind of relentless and addictive energy is captured so well on record, then seeing them live must be unreal.
You have so much swagger, soul, and hints of that southern blues tonality shining through that this band gives off more presents than you may be able to handle.
You can hear elements of psych-rock, experimental undertones, driving rock and roll, and so much more just all rolled into this one single song.
It's an addictive and vivacious track that showcases the band's ability to create a song that puts you right there in the moment and provides you with this feeling that comes along with it.
You can tell this is a band that has a real love for their craft and does this purely as a passion project but have accumulated some pretty outstanding songs in the process.
After I check this track out I took a little bit of a deep dive into the back catalog on Spotify and they have records from back in 2014 that are even ridiculous.
There is an album in particular called Circle Serpent from 2023 that's completely outstanding and really something you should absolutely listen to after you check this thing out.
This is the kind of band that you find yourself listening to all their releases simply so you can hear their evolution.
At least it was that much fun for me.
I adore a band that I can hear on record and immediately know that seeing them live is going to be outstanding.
This band is a perfect example of exactly that.
You hear this track and you start looking online for where you could go see them play.
Trust me when I tell you you're not going to find a track that gives you this kind of unique energy and approach outside of this band.
You have outstanding guitar work that has just as much soul and swagger as the vocals do, rolling drums, harmonica, and of course the vocals belt out and really add even more drive to this already envelope pushing single.
Each element of this song compliments the next. Each performance instrumentally compliments the other.
They do this so they can put songs out into the world that they want to play live. That people are going to feel in their bones and want to jump around too or sing out loud with.
Definitely dive into not only the single but a bunch more from this band and you won't soon regret it.
