A fresh release from Mythology gives off an intense and thriving, cultured and invigorating blend of approaches, textures, soundscapes, and songwriting all rolled into this one record that boasts 29 tracks in total even though some are intermissions, and it all has such a unique and flavorful approach that you just can't turn away from it.
The Story Of Sound is an album that brings plenty of surprises around its corners so much so that by the time you get five tracks into it, you begin to expect the unexpected although I can say at the same time that there are some staples that shine through.
The guitar work across the board is absolutely stellar. It is performed with soul, but it still has loads of precision as are all the other instruments on the record as well.
This is a super lush record and there's never a dull moment. It came through colorfully with bouts of edginess hinted at in its underbelly and it all just felt so cultured by blending in elements of jazz, progressive rock, contemporary, and bouts of Spanish classical.
Some tracks are expansive and vast bringing an almost cinematic backbone to things while others have funk grooves and rhythms that you can't sit still while listening to.
There are so many layers to soak in with this record that I would suggest doing it all in one shot.
This is most certainly the kind of album that you listen to all the way through from beginning to end and it's totally possible because even though it's 29 tracks including those shorter interludes, the album is about an hour and 10 minutes in length.
The reason you listen to it all the way through is because if you just check out one or two tracks from the record then you have no idea what the rest of this album sounds like.
Even listening through half of this album does not give you the spectrum of what it has to offer as a whole and this is important because not a lot of records provide that much depth.
A ton of love went into this record and so many influences come into play throughout its unfolding that again, you don't know what to expect next except that it will be fascinating, to say the least.
This is an escape. The record will almost immediately pull you away from whatever you're doing and put you in this whole other set of worlds and that to me is like a gift in music.
You have vast and totally beautiful and interesting since and keys, amazing guitars, the drumming is outstanding, and it's just a record where all the elements lock into place somehow.
The bass across the record is also very lively and helps add drive to certain songs but also a certain communist to others.
This release was created with fewer boundaries than you might expect it gets intense at times, it gets engulfing at times, and it gets really groovy at times too.
You have to be prepared for all of it.
It's very easy to tell that this is done by a group of people who have a pure love for their craft. Not just playing their instruments or singing but writing music together. They found each other and are now able to put together a series of unique songs that do not conform to any kind of cookie-cutter or social status.
This was a gorgeous record that sprinkled bits of everything into it and did so with heart and a passion for performance.
Again, I can't urge you enough to listen to this entire record if you can. It makes a big difference and trying to do it without interruption. This way you get the full experience. And that's what this is. It's an experience.
At any rate, check this record out and remember where you heard it first.
