Midwest alt-metal outfit ALBORN has dropped the official video for their latest single, “Where Were You,” premiering exclusively today on Outburn.com. The track is a melodically haunting, emotionally charged exploration of vulnerability and power, with vocalist Justin at the heart of it all. “This one surprised me,” Justin shares. “I didn’t fully understand what I had written until the lyrics were done.
Once it clicked, I realized I had subconsciously written about a personal matter I was dealing with at the time. Thankfully, I figured it out before hitting the studio—so I intended to portray that experience as honestly as possible.”
The video is as raw as it is refined—an ongoing theme in ALBORN’s evolution. “I would certainly credit each member of the band for that. Every one of us has our own influences, but we have a similar love for metal.
Finding those balances, and what each one of us likes about the others' interests, is probably the most exciting thing about writing new material.”
Justin also opened up about his vocal journey, crediting early influences like Chad Gray (Mudvayne) and, humorously, some questionable early techniques. “In high school, I’d smoke as many cigarettes as I could before recording vocals, just trying to get that grit,” he laughs. “Thankfully, I figured out a better technique.”
Having shared stages with giants like Shinedown, Sevendust, and Nonpoint, ALBORN’s rise has been built on relentless drive and a deep connection with their craft. But for Justin, it’s all about impact: “I get so in the zone, I rarely take in the moment while it’s happening. My focus is always, ‘Make sure everyone here remembers who we are.’”
With the upcoming single “YMI” set for release in May 2025, and tour dates on the horizon—including runs with Throw the Fight and Left on Red—Justin says the band is more ready than ever. “I think we’re currently the best we’ve ever been, mentally and professionally. I can’t wait to get out there, meet new people, and share what we’ve created.” albornmusic.com
