An incredibly colorful and animated new single from Odd Foxes delivers a massive and theatrical approach in the form of a pop single that shows as much color as it does edginess and also breeds this outstanding sort of character that you end up getting attached to as the song plays on.
"Slow Blade" is super fun, and I feel like it's partially because the vocals do come through a little bit whimsical but also a little bit haunting at times. The way they pull this off is very unique.
The vivacious approach and completely electric energy are some of my favorite aspects about this track because when you listen to it you get pulled right in.
That whole theatrical aspect I mentioned earlier is sort of right up in your face and so all that personality and character is as well. You have these popping textures and sounds that come right toward you and you can't turn away from them because they sound cool.
This is a very piano and key-based track. The keys, synths, and pianos are a massive element and for the most part the biggest rhythm instrument of the track but there are also these great hooks that are delivered from the synths as well and you get that right from the beginning of the song too.
The hook that comes in and out of the song on the synthesizer sounds almost like a theremin and has a spooky sort of vibe to it even though the riff itself is kind of colorful.
The bopping rhythm, bass line, percussion, and the way it's all given off packs a little bit of a punch and you start bopping your head to it without even noticing.
It's actually quite hard not to get up and move your body to this track just because it's got such a deep and heavy-handed groove to it.
I definitely like songs that have that deep of a groove and this sort of lush tonality where it feels like it was recorded live on the floor, and everyone involved was feeding off of each other's energies the entire time.
It's a hard thing to explain in detail but it's almost like the song has this alive and breathing sort of feeling to it.
The energy flows and fluctuates.
All the instruments and elements of the track have a unique way of pushing each other forward. It's like everything complements each other.
The way that the vocals are performed is perfect for the vibe of the song because the whole thing has a little bit of a quirkiness to it in a way and the vocals add to that quite a bit.
Now, don't get me wrong. Nothing is really super over the top here but instead, it's well-balanced while still being excitable and fun.
Like I said before, there's a little bit of edginess to blend in with that color. There's a bit of heaviness in that groove to go along with that animated approach, so it all has this great balance throughout it.
There's also an awesome arrangement to it with some great changes and it just comes through with its own atmosphere.
It's actually quite a little bit of an escape. It feels like you just watched the scene of a play. It sort of pulls you away from whatever you're doing and sucks you right into it.
It's just very charismatic, addictive, a bit vivacious, and doesn't take itself all too seriously.
These are attributes of a song that you can have fun with. A song You can dance to. A song you can sing along with after you've listened to it enough times.
I definitely dig the vibes these guys are putting out there with this track and if you like songs that have that sort of colorful, fun, pop-coated, slightly whimsical, approach, then this is 100% for you because these guys nail that aesthetic from the get-go.
Most certainly dive into this track when you can and remember where you heard it first.
