A new album release from Nectarous hits of sweet rock tonality that has this lush and bountiful southern underbelly and delivers that with a heavy hand throughout the entire record and throughout it all, you get a great feel for the character and personality the record gives off along with this amazing live performance style energy that makes you feel like you just watch this whole record get performed right in front of your face.
The self-titled album does an outstanding job of letting this band come through with all of their presence and they do it by combining these influences together and giving you this, sort of, righteous and swagger riddled southern guitar riffs that feel Americana but scream blues at the same time.
This whole record is built on these killer riffs and the guitar tone itself is also what delivers this sort of slightly gritty, fuzz tone guitar sound which becomes part of the staple feel for this record as a whole.
You get plenty of classic rock, country, Americana, heartland rock and that's a term that I miss because not a lot of that stuff is out there right now, but these guys really pull off that aesthetic as well.
This is one of those records where you need to listen to the whole thing to really soak it in properly. Listening to a few tracks will give you a little bit of a hint or an idea of what you can expect of course because even the first few tracks don't waste much time tearing up those soulful guitar riffs right from the get-go, but unless you listen to the whole album, you won't get the full spectrum of what it actually has to offer.
The whole band carries along that energy and swagger all the way home with vocals that bend and sway, belts and have a way of creating these hooks that stick with you in a strange way. Not in a way where you're singing the words but you're humming the melodies a lot from those vocals.
The drummer is outstanding and really just pushes everything forward super well, gives the whole band this incredible drive and it all comes together again, with this electric energy that feels like these songs were recorded live on the floor and everyone involved was just feeding off of each other the whole entire time.
This is part of what makes this record so alive and breathing in its own way and it's also why it's so addictive and infectious so quickly.
One of the things I love about this record is that there's not a lot of walls built around it.
The songs flow together to the point where you feel like it might be a concept record even though I can't really be super sure of that one.
They do seem to interconnect with each other really well and the entire thing is performed with a lot of heart and passion but again, the word I use for that is soul. The record is just bursting at the seams with soul.
So you have several different influences on this record and they all come together and create this sort of atmosphere that lets you put your fists in the air and sing along, or just soak in certain tracks and feel the emotional drive behind them, either way you're going to get a lot from this record because there's layers to it and it's very fun to peel them back.
These guys certainly know how to write a track that makes you want to go see them live. I miss records like that. Albums that you listen to, and you just know that they're going to be an amazing live band.
Sometimes you can just tell by listening to the recorded piece and these guys have that energy and charisma, they have that passion and that personality.
If you're ready to hear some guitar riffs that are going to rattle your soul, listen to these songs because they're all bangers.
Remember where you heard it first.
