A new album release from His Father's Voice delivers quite an impactful array of rock-backed soundscapes riddled with honesty and robust personality so that you end up taking a lot of the meaning from the songs and holding on to them after they've ended.
The Black Poison Morning album features some pretty massive and sonically driving guitar tones that are performed with an intensity at times that affects the entire song.
Other times, songs present more of a vast underbelly and sort of let you drift alongside them and just soak in what they're really about. I personally like all of these aspects of the record because they showcase how the band is able to really direct songs differently and take these completely different approaches while still having the whole record sound confluent.
This really did come through with it and amazing energy and songs have a certain ebb and flow to them which gives the record a particular experience. But it is an experience all the same.
You start to get the feeling that the songs are part of someone's life. They definitely come from someplace real and I feel like a lot of them indeed service chapters in someone's life. This was the way they were able to express them and get them off of their chest.
One of my favorite things about this record is the honesty, and the vocal approach as well, because the vocal approach has a certain level of intensity as well that at times matches the music but other times it's performed with this sort of angelic and almost floating feel.
When a song is heavy and has distorted guitars and a grungy undertone like some of these tracks do, but the vocals are so smooth and drifting, that combination creates something very unique and for some reason portrays a more personal value.
It makes you feel like you're listening to memories.
I think that's what a lot of this record is about, especially for the vocalist. You're listening to her memories to an extent.
Another cool aspect about this record is that it does have some pop coating to it as well so you get catchiness, hooks, and lots of great sections that sort of stick with you and you can dance to certain tracks, while others you just want to sit back and soak in because that's really what they're meant for.
The whole record is a must hear and if you check out one or two songs I would most certainly go with "Night Terrors" or "Forgot to Feed" but I can tell you right now that listening to two tracks off this record does not give you anywhere near the full spectrum that the album actually has to offer.
The record is eight tracks in length and spans about 42 or 43 minutes long and it's well worth the time.
These songs have potency to them and they're impactful and all different kinds of ways to the point where certain times it feels like some of these songs could have served as chapters in your own life.
What an awesome connection to make there.
There's lots to soak in and lots of layers to be peeled back throughout this record and I feel like the sentiment of it came through stronger on certain songs than others but all the same you come out of this record feeling a little bit differently.
It's the kind of record that makes you think and makes you feel and we need plenty of that in music right now.
An excellent blend of edginess, heaviness, progressive approaches, and subtleties. Alluring and intense vocals and an electric energy that all come together and let you get washed away with everything you're hearing.
This was a gorgeous record and I would suggest listening to the whole thing because then you can take it for what it's really worth.
Remember where you heard it first.
