A New Album Release from The Getaway has Dropped

A new album release from The Getaway delivers a variety of rock-backed tonalities and songwriting approaches ranging from psychedelic pop with funk undertones to indie rock. It all has this vast feel to it at times that almost comes through cinematic and really draws you in.

The album is self-titled and wastes no time jumping right into the atmosphere that the entire album builds. This is important because this is one of those records where there are more than a few surprises around the corners. There is also a confluence between the songs that does indeed deliver an atmosphere that you fall into.

The guitar work is outstanding throughout the course of the record and as the songs unfold, they seem to feel a little bit deeper and more surprising so by the time you get to the fourth track on the record you begin to expect the unexpected.

Now, having said all that the record is also classic rock-driven and has the energy and air of what I would consider a live performance where it feels like everyone is right there in the moment feeding off of each other's energies which in turn is why I think this record has the kind of natural and forward moving flow that it does.

Perhaps these songs were recorded live on the floor. Even if not, listening to the record makes you want to see them perform the whole thing live in your face simply because if you can capture this kind of energy on record then seeing it in a live performance setting would be amazing.

I love being able to listen to a track on a record and know that this band would absolutely put on an amazing live show.

This was inventive and incredibly vivacious bordering on rambunctious even at times but all in good spirit and heart.

You can tell that the entire band has a real love for their craft. When I say that I don't just mean playing their instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together that they want to put out into the world.

The vocalist is outstanding, and she has such an incredible range, and I don't just mean note-wise. She has an incredible range in variety as she almost transforms characters from song to song which I find quite amazing.

That vocal approach really also adds to the drive of the record which already has a great push to it.

As I mentioned earlier, there is a lot of funk in the undertones of some of these tracks, making them incredibly danceable. The percussion and drumming are outstanding and always in the pocket but always fun and alive.

The drumming and the vocals are the key elements that let this whole record feel sort of alive and breathing in its own way.

The bass lines really add a great low end, but they walk and have fun, they add color to the songs and the guitar work is always a surprise, and always creative, and experimental. Together they create a soundscape that feels slightly psychedelic and influenced by that layer of classic rock history.

Most of all, they go with the flow, and it feels good. You can feel the heart that was put into this record and how everyone there is in love with what they're doing.

You get attached to the lyrics, the vocal approach, the melodies that sometimes stick in your head for hours after the songs have ended, and all of it pays tribute to the aesthetic of the record in the end.

To me, this was a sort of classic rock powerhouse of a release and is very infectious.

This is the record that you listen to as a whole. Listening to only one or two tracks from this release will not give you the full spectrum of what the album has to offer as a whole.

They may give you an idea or gist of what you might expect but it's barely the tip of the iceberg.

The record has colorful, charismatic, and vibrant layers to it that all pay tribute to different influences that the members bring in musically.

I would suggest listening to this track in full and don't be afraid to turn it up.

Remember where you heard it first.
