An EP release from A Murder Of One delivers a full-bodied cross between color and edginess by blending genres like pop rock, with punk, alternative rock, and even elements of metal at times creating an atmosphere that's not only all its own but has an amazing energy that feels almost like a live performance right from the get-go.
The Grow for It release spans three tracks, and each one has a little bit of a different approach to the band's songwriting and arrangement style but also shows these different influences coming through, so you get a good idea for what pushes them all to become a band and start writing music together in terms of musical inspirations.
This is a record that doesn't hold a lot back in the way of fuck truth or honesty as the vocalist does an outstanding job of bringing a different layer of texture to the already lush feeling tracks and also gives it a lot of personality to hold on to as well.
This is important because I feel like that's a main attribute that a lot of bands are missing these days; personality. Sure there are a lot of great bands and songs out there but, a lot of them are missing that character that brings the songs to life and lets the listener connect to what they're about.
With this band, it's the exact opposite. These songs have a lot of character and deliver that honesty right up front so you are already getting addicted to that aspect of the tracks along with that edgy, fun, and catchy rock soundscape.
You can certainly hear a youthful and vivacious approach in the energy and it feels almost like these songs were recorded live so that everyone involved was feeding off of each other and giving the songs this punchy overtone.
A lot of these songs put you right there in the moment and that's why they have that live performance
The guitar riffs are sort of classic. No one is reinventing the wheel here but they're definitely taking their influences and spiraling them together so that you have something that's impactful and sticks in your head for hours after you've listened to the songs.
These are catchy but hard-hitting pop-rock bangers and it's something that showcases the band's ability to put together memorable tracks, you can sing along with, or you can headbang to.
The vocals crush it all the way through. Not only do they give personality and character to the song, but they also add to that energy and I have a lot more to do with putting you right there in the moment than you might think.
As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot more than a few hooks that stick in your head for a while after the songs have ended and the only way to satiate that is to go and listen to them again which is pretty smart songwriting if you ask me however, I think it just comes to this band naturally.
You can tell this is a band that has a real love for their craft and when I say that I don't just mean playing their instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together that they can put out into the world and showcase their vigor and love for doing what they're doing.
Anyone who loves heavy rock, pop rock, or even classic rock or punk, will definitely love this EP.
As far as it looks, this is their debut record and we certainly will be paying attention to whatever else they have coming down the line from here on out.
If you take a good listen to this release you'll probably do the same.
There's a lot to grab onto. There are outstanding, anthemic sections that make you want to stand up and sing right alongside this band with your fist in the air.
Definitely check this out as soon as you can and don't be afraid to turn it loud.
Remember where you heard it first.
