A fresh new EP release from A Moment Of Violence features a heavy-handed metal approach but blends with everything from alternative rock to a little punk, hard-hitting emo, some hardcore, and just plenty more.
The Lies We Tell is a record that runs the gambit of heavy rock music by blending all of these genres to create something that hits like a sucker punch to the gut.
This release spans six tracks and almost 20 minutes, but it feels a lot bigger simply because these tracks are not only memorable but do indeed pack that punch and edginess. They bring on anthemic and powerful choruses that feel vast and almost cinematic in their own way.
There is a lot about this record that feels genuine and there is some emotional drive to a lot of these tracks as well, so you can tell they came from someplace real.
The guitars are heavy, and trudging, but also melodic and expansive so you have this amazing balance between that massive Sonic tonality, and a driving metal approach.
One of the things I love most about this record is the actual encompassing of all these heavy genres put in one record. Some songs sound straight metal again, with those hardcore elements while others bring the essence of punk rock as they thrash out with these melodic sections, and a lot of the time, there is the presence of classic '90s style alternative rock embedded in the veins of these tracks.
These are the kinds of choruses that stick in your head, and you can end up singing along with them the second or third time around.
The EP is as eclectic vocally as it is musically with either multiple singers or one vocalist that does both the melodic and powerful chorus styles, but also this grueling almost death metal screaming that comes in during the heavier sections of the record.
The release certainly comes through with a certain kind of fire and its aggressive approach is counterbalanced with those melodic and anthemic exceptions so, I think there was a lot of attention to detail during the writing of these songs because they were arranged super well.
You should listen to this EP in full. Again, it's only about 20 minutes long so don't try and tell me you don't have the time. if you dig heavy music, then this record is for you because again they blend all kinds of heavy genres into the One release so it's very satiating in that sense.
The drumming is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to this release, and they deliver not only super tight metal style drawing but can also bring that liveliness to songs as well.
So, not only is the drumming tight but it has this added drive that helps the whole record push through to the place where it ends up being.
There's definitely an outstanding energy across the board with this release. You can't help but get into these songs because again, you get the sense that they all came from someplace real.
If you are a metalhead, or you love hardcore, alternative rock, or even punk or grunge, then this record is going to be something that you get attached to very quickly.
It definitely oozes personality and there are plenty of surprises around the corners, especially in terms of some of the riffs, breakdowns, and vocals.
There's definitely something in this record for everyone but again, if you listen to the whole thing from start to finish, you'll get a much better grasp on what it's all about.
You can listen to one or two tracks and if you do, I suggest the lead single and first track on the record called "Bullet" which in my opinion, covers a lot of what you might expect from the record.
Having said that, as I mentioned before, there are a lot of unexpected elements to this release that grab you, and those surprises are meant to be heard in real-time so if you listen to just one song, make it "Bullet", but, if you like that track then absolutely listen to the whole EP.
A massive release from a band I will be keeping an eye out for from here on, listen to The Lies We Tell right now.
Remember where you heard this first.
