A new release from Heroine Honey delivers a massive sonic drive In the form of an alternative rock banger that beckons classic underground '90s heavy rock soundscapes and does so with this sort of infectious character that you end up getting attached to almost right from the start.
"Dive Doll" manages to blend in elements of garage rock, slight hints of punk, and plenty of grunge along the way and I think it's completely addictive just being able to take all those sub-dramas of rock music and roll them into a one fat single that comes through with this vivacious energy and this robust personality.
The guitar tone is outstanding and really hits that heavy and hard alt rock aesthetic but also thrashes out in that classic grunge style as well, the vocals are just belting during the choruses. The choruses are absolutely anthemic and she gets nice and loud to go along with the epic explosive approach of the music at those points.
I feel like there was a lot of thought that went into the arrangement of this song because it does have a great breathing approach. The verses are kind of like the calms before the storms and That's a classic move but it works super well with the way they put it together.
It also has a great little change in Bridge in there too and I feel like the energy of this track is really part of what pushes it forward so well. It almost has a live performance undertone to it energy wise.
It feels almost like everyone involved was just feeding off of each other during the performance of the track which in turn, does indeed give it that live feel.
So, the energy is completely electric, the vocals have so much Lush character and personality to them plus they breathe, calm, and then explode with the music and the guitar work is absolutely outstanding here.
One of the reasons I love this track is because it does give me little bouts of nostalgia simply because they take them more current alternative rock approach but they do blend in once again, that classic sort of grunge feel and that happens mostly during the course is when I really starts rocking and thrashing but it feels good to listen to because it's such a fist in the air, belt and sing along type of section.
The whole thing is infectious as a matter of fact. This is a track that I feel really speaks volumes for Heroine Honey and how the band utilizes all these different influences to create something that feels warm and welcoming even though it rocks with a massive edge and a huge drive, because of that nostalgic feel that you get when you listen to it.
This reminds me of the kind of albums I would listen to when I was a younger man. In those days, we would go and hear a song on the radio and then buy the album from the store. When you bought that album you got a big experience and it was a part of the process.
Listening to this track just gives me that same feeling in a way. They have that aesthetic completely nailed and it's not just one thing or the other genre wise.
They do an amazing job of genre bending and putting things together but also giving it this punch and really heavy tonality.
This was a very memorable song and will definitely bounce around in your head for hours after it's ended and the only way to say she ate that is to go and listen to it again.
Going back to the live performance thing, even though they probably didn't actually record this live on the floor, because if they can capture that kind of energy on record, then seeing them live must be epic.
Kudos to Heroine Honey for being able to release something that feels like I've been listening to it for decades now but also fresh at the same time.
These guys really just nailed every aspect of the heavy and hard grunge and alternative rock crossover.
Awesome track. Go check this out as soon as you can to listen to it loud or don't listen to it at all.
Remember where you heard it first.
