A new EP release from Pleroma delivers a vast undertone and a fierce soundscape by blending melodic and progressive metal into elements of alternative rock and, at times, getting a little harder and a little heavier when they feel like it.
The Lost Inside EP is massive and showcases the band's ability to create atmospheres as each of these songs breeds this expansive underbelly, and with those you get an orchestrated metal tonality at times that pulls you into the record.
The riffs are pretty intense across the board and at times the band hits a deeper, more rumbling, and more destructive almost heavier metal that borders on death metal at times but doesn't quite go all the way there.
The cool thing about this record is that it is metal but, it's also alternative rock, as I mentioned earlier. So, you have these sort of anthemic sections, these brilliant melodic and harmonious Parts, and everything comes through with a powerful punch that hits hard but is never super over the top.
Another thing I really love about this record is the fact that it incorporates electronic rock into the mix at times bringing in synths and keys that add layers of tonality to the record and deepen that atmosphere even more so that it almost feels like the soundtrack to a film in a way.
This is cinematic and I love the impactful and engulfing sound from those kinds of songs.
You can definitely hear that classic alternative rock influence in the mix. That '90s underground hard-hitting all rock is flowing through the veins of this record through and through and that is a part of the release that never goes away so you can tell those aspects are part of the staple feel for the band itself.
The record has an incredible energy that's completely electric and feels almost like there were parts of it that were recorded live on the floor and everyone involved was just feeding off of each other the entire time.
What I mean by that is, a lot of these songs feel alive and breathing. There are layers to these tracks, and you do indeed get wrapped up in them.
There are waves of intensity that come and go, and you can ride those all the way through the tracks.
This is most certainly a record you listen to from beginning to end. Listening to one or two tracks can give you a bit of a gist of what you can expect. But that will not give you the full spectrum of what the EP has to offer as a whole.
This record is an escape. It pulls you away from whatever you're doing and wherever you are and puts you in this different world.
It's like science fiction cinema with a heavy Edge.
At least that's where it takes me. A sort of post-apocalyptic sci-fi journey that gives you all kinds of robust and vivacious hooks and bursting vocals that come through fierce at times but others that have more of a melodic sense to them and all of these different things end up bouncing around in your brain for hours after the songs have ended.
The only way to satiate that is to go and listen to them again.
I have listened to this record almost three times now and on the third time around it started to feel almost like a concept record as well.
The songs have strange ways of interconnecting with each other. This is another reason to listen to the record from beginning to end.
I'm definitely digging how some of these songs are drenched in reverb effect and really give you that vastness to hold on to.
There are more than a few surprises around the corners, outstanding guitar work all the way through. The performance of the entire band from the drums, bass guitar, guitars, vocals, and keys, is outstanding because everyone feels like they're right there in the moment.
Another cool thing about this record is that it feels honest lyrically. It feels like a lot of these songs came from genuine places or life experiences and that gives the record a little bit more emotional backbone and authenticity.
This was a massive, sonically driving, intense, vibrant, edgy, heavy, and melodic release that hit me in a particular way.
Super memorable all the way through and is something that you should either listen to on a high-volume level or with headphones on because then you can really soak in all the things that are happening in the ethers of these songs.
As I mentioned earlier, there are certainly layers and I didn't just mean that lyrically, I meant that musically.
Either way, dive into this record when you can and remember where you heard it first.
