A Heavy-Handed Single Release from Wildheart

The new release from Wildheart brings together a heavy-hitting and sort of classic hardcore approach and blends that with elements of pop-punk, alternative rock, and classic thrash metal but it's all done with a powerful performance and this thick tonality that comes through with a sonically impactful underbelly.

"Evergreen" is it pretty huge track and spans about 5 minutes long because of all the great changes that go down, and throughout the unfolding of this track you get your share of trudging and heavy guitar tones and riffs that you get that brutal, and again, sort of old school, east coast hardcore vibe from.

I only know this because I listened to plenty of it when I was growing up on the east coast and I love how these guys nail that aesthetic but add a whole different aspect to it as well.

This is one of the heavier tracks that I have heard in a long time that actually blend together so many sub-genres of metal, hardcore, and alternative rock and turn it out into this one fist to the ground, pounding and grinding, track.

I definitely love the guitar harmonies that happen throughout the track along with how they bounce back and forth between the trudging heavy palm-muted riffs into those sorts of colorful pop-punk sections because it shows you the different influences that are incorporated into not just this one track, but the band themselves.

I think this is one of those bands where each player involved had a slightly different influence so, together they can create something that has its own vibe and atmosphere to it.

They even give us an ultra-heavy and deepening breakdown section which is a classic hardcore and metal approach, and they do it damn well too.

Some people would consider this more metal than hardcore, some people would consider this grindcore, some people would say this was melodic metal, but either way, you're getting something that has a bit of heart to it and hits like a sucker punch to the gut.

I mean that in the best way possible of course.

These guys really put something special out and you can tell that they're a band that just loves doing it for the sake of doing it.

This is exactly what we need especially in heavier music.

The vocalist is brutal but has different approaches as well to how he puts himself out there and I think that goes right along with what I was mentioning earlier with the band too.

Everyone involved brings these different influences to the table so that with this one track alone you're able to pick up on all those different genres and genres and I think it's amazing how they're able to make those come together and flow seamlessly into one fat track.

This was a killer song with a lot going on, plenty of intricate changes, great guitar works all around, the drumming was outstanding, the way that they just do their thing together is sort of harmonious in general and the whole thing gives you a sort of fists in the air rock out feel.

What's more is that there is a massive set of political hot topics and buttons here that I feel like this band focuses on.

"This song’s original intent feels more relevant than ever in light of the fact that we are a year into witnessing the genocide of the Palestinian people," tells the band. "Whilst this song wasn't specifically written about Gaza, it touches on Capitalism, Western Imperialism and the ongoing rise of the Fascist Right, which, in light of the ongoing events, we want to raise our voices for." - Wildheart

So, you can see there's a message behind this intensity that the band delivers, and I love that about them.

Really great track from a band I am definitely going to be paying a little bit more attention to from here on out.

Listen to "Evergreen" and see if you can pick up on all the different parts mentioned.

If you're into any kind of heavy music whatsoever, this one's for you.
