A completely heartwarming new single from Zaida hits with a beautiful emotional drive that comes through with such lush personality and honesty that you end up feeling exactly where she's coming from with the song right from the start.
"Momma Said" is a love letter to her mom of course and it comes through with all the emotional attributes that it should so when you listen to the song It causes memories of your own to pop into your head. You end up thinking of your own mother. This is super connective and it's all because Zaida was able to take certain aspects of the song lyrically and articulate them so that they're so cut and dry and understandable for a lot of us that you can feel it.
I sincerely hope her mom hears this song or has heard it because it's such a beautiful thing that you just simply don't come across often. You don't come across a song that's an ode to a parent very often. They're out there, but it's few and far between, especially ones that have such a graceful approach and honest backbone to it.
Zaida captured something special here and the song comes through with a very authentic underbelly which is partially what the song is all about.
The artist is explaining in a way that a big part of how she became the person she is now is because of her mom and the things that she said to her. She remembers. She kept these things with her. And these are the kinds of things that can help shape a person.
It is a little intense I will admit but in a good way not in a bad way. It's beautiful and the song itself is a very full-bodied singer-songwriter, folk-style track that has hints of Americana in there and vocally is bountiful and still soothing at the same time.
The performance is done in a way that feels almost like it's live. It feels as if you're watching her perform it right in front of your face and I love the energy that comes across during this performance because of that.
Throughout the song you get some background vocals that come in and out giving a little more thickness to the song, adding layers of melody and depth musically.
Layers of acoustic guitar in there that at times feel almost like they're acoustic and electric but I'm not sure about that one. I can tell you that the tones of the guitars really work wonders of the song as well because again, it adds a thickness and lusciousness to the song so that it comes through feeling full-bodied and warm right alongside those lyrics.
This is very cinematic to me. Just because of that emotional standpoint and the premise of the song and where it came from in the first place.
This was such a wonderfully woven and beautifully performed single that really speaks volumes for Zaida as an artist because in this track, she gives a piece of herself and a very unique in particular way.
I think that when I'm listening to folk, singer-songwriter, or songs that just make me think or feel, I want things to be genuine. I want the artist to be giving a piece of themselves in their music and that's exactly what's happened here.
This was an outstanding single from an artist I will definitely be paying more attention to from here on out.
If you are the type of person who likes to listen to music that makes you feel something, then this is 100% for you.
Listen to this track and see how it affects you.
Remember where you heard it first.
