A new single release from Delilah Rose gives off a psychedelic rock feel and aesthetic with vast and tremolo-riddled guitar tones, vast underbellies, and a wild almost animated vocal approach.
Sophia is quite an intense song with a few surprises around its corners and can definitely pull you into a story with descriptive lyrics that are delivered with A soulful undertone but a slightly rambunctious swagger which was something I loved.
The song's drumming and percussion are one of the most pertinent aspects of it all. It gives the song this drive but also the feeling of being alive and breathing. It's got this liveliness to it that lets the song hit a more vibrant and vivacious approach.
The drums are something that pull all of this together and makes it really work.
The guitar work is outstanding. It's just as wild as the vocals but the whole band has the same attitude really.
A lot of this actually feels like it was recorded live on the floor to an extent. Maybe there were some overdubs afterward. It just seems like everyone involved was feeding off of each other's energies at the same time.
Maybe that's what gives the song the whole alive and breathing feel.
I wasn't there of course. I could be completely wrong about the whole live on the floor thing but, listening to this track makes you want to see it performed in your face because if this kind of energy and presence is captured on record this well, then seeing it performed live must be amazing.
There's also a heavy-handed theatrical feel to it all. This has a little bit to do with the lyrics but really the whole performance approach as well.
You just get this robust and Theatrical feel from the aesthetic of this song.
Of course, the vocals are what come out and grab you. These are intense and freeing vocals that are perfectly in pitch and done with a bright passion but they're fun and it makes you feel like the whole song was created with fewer boundaries than you may be used to.
That's part of the fun.
Along with that theatrical undertone you also get plenty of cinematic feels and can easily picture this song in the scene of a film or TV show.
This was a perfect combination of color and edginess that brought together several different genres to create an atmosphere and vibe that feels like it's completely its own.
To me, this was a psychedelic rock Soiree with a bit of a pop-coating and a wild side.
No one is holding back here. Everyone is letting loose and giving the most sort of intense performances that they can while keeping things perfectly in pocket simultaneously.
I also love how the song gets a bit more intense as it goes on.
The drums hit harder, the guitars get louder and more full-bodied, and everything follows suit.
You got some classic rock guitar solos towards the end section of the track, and it all comes together like pieces of a puzzle yet falls apart at the same time
It makes you think of bands like The Doors for example.
This was quite an escape that should be listened to with headphones on to really soak in all the layers of action and textures that are happening throughout this track.
For me, that crazy ending was the best because it was so genuine and authentic to real classic rock.
Take a deep dive into this track and remember where you heard it first.
