A brand-new EP release from Rare Seed delivers a soiree of rock undertone and jam style songs that bring together elements of heavy undertones, expansive approaches, and danceable rhythms all rolled up into one fat EP that delivers a colorful but edgy experience.
The Heavy Blows EP takes that sort of live performance vibe where it feels like the players are jamming with each other right in front of your face and they blend in some psychedelic rock a little bit of grunge a little bit of garage rock and some classic rock as well and it's all done with a true love for all of those genres and you can hear those influences coming through differently with each track.
The guitar tones throughout this record are absolutely perfected and there is this pop coating over a lot of these tracks that makes them sort of vivacious, vibrant, and addictive.
I love that blend of a heavy undertone at times but really just being able to dance to these songs to the point where there's certain tracks you can't not dance to because those rhythms and grooves really hit hard.
The vocals to me a lot of the times feel more like they add a layer of melody to the songs and are used as instruments themselves half the time which I absolutely adore because that approach is really unique and quite fun.
I can't get away from that live performance feeling with this record and I definitely like that aspect because that energy is sort of infectious.
The record blends some really great guitar hooks and some lead work but there's other guitars that add a sort of flow to the tracks along with organs and keys constantly that add more depth and atmosphere to them as well and believe me, sometimes these organs really jam out.
This is a very fun record and each of the songs has something a little bit different to give off so listening to only one or two tracks from this release won't really give you the full range of what it has to offer.
This is one of the records that you want to listen to as a whole from beginning to end and you'll have a great time doing it because that vivaciousness and that color is completely addictive.
I love that combination of classic influences flowing through the veins of this record and how certain elements of classic rock show face in certain tracks while in other ones more edgier garage and alternative rock shows face just here and there so you can tell that there is a lot of different bands that these guys grew up listening to and they found each other to create a sort of wonderous blend of those bands and this is part of why the record is actually addicting.
There's also a little bit of a freeing feeling when you listen to this track because it's a little bit experimental and it's done with less boundaries than you might be used to which I think is brilliant because all music should be done with less boundaries these days and I think bands like rare seed are one of the first ones to really take a rock aspect and make it more expansive and immersive, fun, jammable, danceable, and something that is memorable as well all while delivering that electric energy that makes you feel like you're right there watching it happen.
Really an outstanding EP from these guys and I'm not surprised in the slightest so if you have a chance again, I strongly suggest listening to the whole record as opposed to just a few songs and do that either with headphones on or in the car nice and loud so you can shake your butt in your seat, and groove with all that this record has to offer.
Remember where you heard it first.
