One of the things that makes you get attached to the music of Karly C is that very straightforward sort of honesty. There is so much truth in how she puts together her lyrics and how she lets pieces of herself, and her inner thoughts just spill out everywhere without any walls built around it or fears. This gives music personality and relatability. You connect with her music because she's coming from a place that you just know is genuine.
Her latest single release is no exception to any of these rules. The song is called "Dreaming About You" and absolutely paints such a picture of who she is as a person in a certain light.
This song has this amazing almost contemporary pop sort of style, but it also crosses into other elements and to me, it feels theatrical in its own right.
This is because the song has an amazing build and when it gets to these big, gigantic feeling choruses there are so many layers of textures going on that it feels completely robust and just bursting with this light and energy coming from it.
I dig this a lot because it's not the most emotional song in the world. But there is a lot of emotion involved. She's just getting attached to somebody and that's what the song is about. It seems like a song about how she doesn't feel like she's that person's type in any way shape or form but, she just can't stop dreaming about them.
This is a completely connective and relatable thing. I'm sure plenty of us have felt this way about at least one person in our lives and I think it's a beautiful thing how Karly C is able to pinpoint that feeling and express it out into words the way that she does.
Getting past all of that, her voice is so intense and has this strange tonal warmth to it that really kind of engulfs you in it and it feels great to be wrapped up in those tones.
Her voice and tone itself are strangely welcoming. She's got a powerful vocal and can dynamically keep it exactly where she wants to. When it's a bit more subtle and the song is in the calm before the big sections, she lets that flow and approaches it with, again, a theatrical technique.
And then when all the intensity and the emotion explode during those choruses you have the area where she belts out and that's where they become so powerful and in your face.
She's got a vocal that you cannot turn away from. If you are across the room in the middle of a party talking to someone in mid-conversation you will immediately stop and turn your head wondering what you were listening to.
You'll need to walk over to the stereo and find out who that is you are hearing.
There are orchestral approaches throughout the song performed mostly by synth pads that add that thickness and layer on floaty, dreamy notes and tones which bring that expansive sort of vast underbelly out.
It's just a very well-orchestrated and arranged song showcasing that emotional build so well that you can feel it.
I think that's what you want from a song like this. You want to be able to feel it. She puts this out there so well that you can't help but feel that emotional build in your body.
Again, it also has to do with the lyrics. How she is so articulate in expressing herself through her words is a major point and how this song hits.
It has a very particular but beautiful aesthetic, and she thought everything out so well but still can perform this with all the heart and soul, authenticity, and intensity you could ever want.
Sometimes, those there could be very descriptive, and you connect and understand them so well.
An outstanding track from Karly C and something that we should all be listening to today, check out "Dreaming About You" and see what it does for you because it will affect you.
