An album release from The Fuck Ups comes through as a classic and thriving punk rock record with all the elements that you would expect and more.
Always Enough To Go To War, Never Enough To Feed The Poor features heavy statements politically, tackle societal struggle, and talks a lot about the state of things in our day and age. They're absolutely right about all of it.
Not only do they pull all of this off within one record, which by the way is true punk rock style, they really do deliver a classic, vintage punk approach that brings in elements of all kinds of sub dramas of punk from street to thrash, and more.
Even the way the album was recorded hints at lo-fi and the energy captured on it all packs such a punch that when it's over, you should sort of have to shake it all off.
Now, this all goes hand in hand because it feels almost like this record was recorded live on the floor to an extent and everyone in the band was feeding off of each other's energy the entire time giving the songs that impact that they needed.
I wasn't there of course so I'm not sure if that's how they recorded it but it sure feels that way when you listen to the record.
As you delve deeper into the record it just makes you want to go see them live simply because if the energy was captured on record this well then going to see them live must be a real face-melter.
I have always been a fan of punk music. I grew up with plenty of it and can tell you that The Fuck Ups and this record in particular do touch on that very early 80s thrash punk with a lot to say.
It's like an album that could have been released decades ago that you just missed.
There are some absolutely killer riffs throughout this record and plenty of surprises around the corners actually but it's the kind of thing where you should be listening to the entire record as opposed to just a few songs.
Listening to this album in full is a bit of an escape and really gets you into a certain point of view and perspective.
If you're closed-minded it can open you up a lot more and if you just love the blood pumping, fiery and slightly aggressive approach that real punk rock gives off then this record is also just for you.
The album is 15 songs and about 40 minutes in length which is perfect for a record of this nature and for you to listen to the whole thing in one shot.
The approaches are blistering with Incredible and non-stop energy that you end up feeding into yourself at times.
Points of views that you find yourself not in your head in agreeing with pop up all over the place and I feel like these guys are just saying things that we think but are not saying out loud.
Again, this is also another major staple in real true punk rock music.
The drummer is awesome. The whole drum performance on this record had so much drive that keeps everything really in the pocket but still has that slight hint of looseness to it that makes everything also feel alive and breathing at the same time.
Again, it's that almost live performance feel that gives this record so much vigor and vibrancy.
If you are a fan of true punk rock then you will know all the bands that these guys are influenced by and this was extremely, more than noteworthy, super well performed, high impact LP that really exactly the way it was supposed to.
The whole aesthetic was nailed from the first track through the last.
Nothing was missed here, and you can tell that these guys have a real love for the genre and for the craft of writing songs together so that people can sing along with their fists in the air.
But don't just take my word for it. Crank this record loud and you'll find yourself addicted to it by the third song in.
Also, listen to what they're saying because that is of the utmost importance. This is a record with messages to portray and so you have to listen to those too.
Check this record out and remember where you heard it first.
