An absolutely blistering new release from Delenda manages to blend several elements of heavy metal subgenres together to create something that's completely fierce and deafeningly heavy but also brings together elements of pristine production and a sludge tone at times that really lets things swallow you whole.
"Circadian" it's something a lot of people would consider to be death metal but there's also thrash, black, melodic, and more involved plus, it has this sort of synth-driven atmosphere that lurks beneath the surface and adds a cinematic factor to everything.
The whole thing is haunting in a way and comes through with a massive sonic drive and tonality as the distortion and guitar tones hit like a sucker punch to the gut.
This is a track that again, blends metal styles, so you do have elements even of hardcore and grindcore involved here as there are these crazy breakdowns that bring things to an even more halftime element and time signature and, those segments are just ridiculously heavy and thick with trudging riffs and sludgy and gritty soundscapes.
I love the guitar riffs on this because you do have some augmented stuff going on kind of like Dillinger Escape Plan style but again, this is a common element in black or death metal if you're doing it right and believe me these guys certainly do it right.
The thing with this record is that it has a very crisp style so that comes through sounding flawless in a way. It's just super tight but it's really the energy that reaches out and grabs you.
There are elements of this track that make you feel like perhaps parts of it were recorded live-on-the-floor, especially between the drums and the guitars because it does indeed feel like those two elements especially are feeding off of each other's energy the entire time.
This gives that live performance feel and even if I'm wrong about the whole live-on-the-floor recording thing, listening to this record makes you want to go see them perform it live in your face because if the energy is this good on a recording, then seeing them alive must be a real face-melter.
This is kind of what I want from a band like this. I want to be able to listen to a track from a brutal heavy band and know for a fact that they're just going to crush and destroy everything in a live setting.
I really pick up on that factor when I listen to this track, and you can also tell that everyone involved really has a pure love for their craft in terms of writing songs together.
The vocals are grueling and fiery which also adds to the energy levels of the track and really pushes the envelope just enough to get to where it needs to be.
Another favorite aspect of this track is that the lyrics are actually really kind of descriptive even though they're metaphoric.
The lyrical content to this is not very straightforward but you can feel the struggle in the lyrics and that aggression in the tonality of how they're delivered so you know it's something real. There is indeed a heavy-handed emotion that goes with this track and its delivery, and I think that's really important for a track like this.
People that don't listen to a lot of metal don't understand the emotion that's involved to be able to pull this kind of stuff off. Metal songs, especially in terms of death metal at times, have this sort of poetry lyrically, and to me, it can actually be so dark but beautiful at the same time.
This is because, just like in this track, things could be both metaphoric but very descriptive and visual at the same time. Being able to let inner thought and emotion out with no boundaries.
To me this is an incredible thing especially the way it's all put together and spit out.
This was a massively intense track that it's hard and a lot of different ways, has surprises around the corners, comes through with a heavy and edgy vibrancy, and delivers classic, deepening, rumbling, death metal and hardcore elements that give you the experience that you're looking for from a track like this.
I highly suggest checking this one out with headphones on because then you will be able to escape the heaviness that ends up surrounding you.
Upon listening to this track, I took a deep dive into their back catalog on Spotify and found a ton of awesome releases including singles, albums, and EP's that all really showcase how this band has been really pushing their limits since 2015.
Check this track out and then go through their back catalog because if you like this song, then I guarantee you're going to like a whole bunch of other releases.
Turn it up or don't listen to it at all.
Remember where you heard it first.
